IRVING, Texas - Back in late April, following the completion of the NFL Draft, owner Jerry Jones was emphatic about veteran Keith Brooking returning this season.

While he admitted several veterans would not be around once the lockout ended, which proved to be the case as the team cut players such as Roy Williams, Leonard Davis and Marion Barber, Jones knew Brooking wasn't in that equation, nor was Bradie James.

The two aging vets were definitely in the plans at middle linebacker this year. But the writing has been on the wall that a changing of the guard at this position is coming.

And now, that time might be a little sooner than later.

Carter's a lot bigger than I thought he'd be now that you see him out there next to other players. He's so quick sideline to sideline in his college highlights, I mentally had him pegged as a Dat Nguyen-type ILB.

I hope he's picking up the defense quickly, because we need someone to take some of Brookings reps in the worst way.

Not paying any attention to the player weights listed around the net, Lee and Carter and basically the same size (from their respective combines: Lee 6021, 236 lbs. & Carter 6014, 243 lbs.). Carter is the more athletic (which is pretty damn scary), while Lee is the more instinctive. BUT, they're both athletic and instinctive. If they can just stay relatively healthy.............................a great future ahead folks.

I like what Eatman said during his radio show, he said that if Carter makes a mistake at least he will get to the wrong place faster. It will be interesting to see what type of sub packages he will be placed in.

I dream of an inside LBing unit that's fast and athletic enough to tackle in space and COVER... Lord am I asking too much?

I'd still like to see the Cowboys gets some depth at this position through the draft or free agency.

And no, I don't think resigning Bradie James would be a great idea. Nothing personal against the guy, but strictly as a football player at this point in his career, he's a one-trick pony.

Moving forward, I want this group to be led by Sean Lee.
