The Cowboys have confidence in Orlando Scandrick as their starter in place of Mike Jenkins, who is expected to miss at least three weeks with a hamstring injury. Scandrick has been targeted 12 times, giving up only nine catches for 88 yards and a touchdown this season, according to STATS, Inc. He has 13 tackles and a pass breakup.
Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said he considers Scandrick a starter anyway.
"Absolutely he is, and that's just the nature of the position he plays," Garrett said of the nickel back position. "I think everybody in the league considers that nickel back, that third corner, as a starting player, because so many offenses on first and second down and on third down, they get into 11 personnel with three- or four-wide receiver sets and you need that guy out there. You have starters in each of those defensive personnel groups. Some games those guys play a lot. Some guys they play less depending on the team you're playing and the situations that arise.
