IRVING -- Cowboys third-string quarterback Stephen McGee is preparing himself to play Sunday at Washington just in case backup quarterback Jon Kitna is inactive.
Kitna missed the last two days of practice because of a back injury and is listed as doubtful on the Cowboys' official injury report. McGee would back up Tony Romo if Kitna can't go.
