Linebacker Derrick Johnson is another Texas Longhorns player apparently dropping on NFL draft boards. The Cowboys, for one, question his ability to take on blocks and tackle from the backside. They don't see him as a first-round player.

There's no need to be drafting a LB in the first round. Few have the impact worthy of a first rounder.

can this be a tactic to drive down dj's value and hope that he is still available at 11?

I hope so. I would take him at #11 but if he were to fall all of the way to #20 (which would NEVER happen) and we pass on him then I would personally rearrange Jerra's facelift.

What moron came up with this and how stupid could someone be to believe it? This may be the most dumbarse thing I've ever read on this forum. ROFLMFAO. Unbelievable. DJ could end up being the most overated player in the history of sports but if there is one thing he CAN do it's tackle from the backside.

- The Vikings were hoping to nab Ohio State kicker Mike Nu gent in the fourth round of the draft, but now they are sensing they might have to take him as high as the second round. They are the team most interested in Nugent.

- Aaron Rodgers' good workout is putting more pressure on San Francisco to take the California quarterback with the first pick in the draft. The 49ers can't afford to pass on another hometown QB. They whiffed on Tom Brady in 2000.

THIS was the article you referred to?! What a joke of a newspaper! Nothing really of substance; heck it could have been written by one of us... :D If I was DJ, I wouldn't worry about "dropping" out of the 1st round.....

DJ should thank Roy then. Thanks to that dirty and vile Horse-Collar Williams, tackling from the backside will be illegal next year.
Problem solved - DJ back in the 1st round.

I would normally agree but this is an uncharacteristically weak draft as opposed to others prior. I think a LB will easily be the BPA somewhere in the first half of the 1st round.

the month before the draft it's all about misinformation. talking down the guy you want and praising the guy you don't. it's been around for years.

I am tired of seeing people rag on DJ, I would much rather see him at linebacker than say
Al "I will only make one single play all year" Singleton

I don't believe that Dallas really thinks that Derrick isn't one of the 30 best players in this draft.
I won't be surprised if Dallas passes on him though for the simple reason that he might not fit this scheme as well, and I think Bill sees LBs later in the draft that he can get practically equal production from.

It almost makes too much sense.
DJ is a Longhorn who wants to stay in Texas.
He has said publicly that he wants to play for Dalllas.
We need a playmaker at LB as bad as any position this year.
I just don't see him falling to us at #11 regardless of what the experts say about his stock falling.
But my fingers are crossed.

I think it's going to be very hard, to say the least, for Dallas to pass on Derrick Johnson.
I can't help but wonder if a part of management doesn't want him to be there though so that this isn't an issue...assuming that they aren't sold on him.
I would talk down a player I want too! No one is his right mind thinks DJ is anthing other than a fist round pick!
