Emmitt Smith, the NFL's all-time leading rusher, has submitted his official written notification of retirement to the NFL, and the Cowboys have placed him on their reserve-retired list.

Smith, who spent 13 seasons with the Cowboys, signed a contract with the club last week. He finished with 18,355 career yards after spending the last two seasons with the Arizona Cardinals.

He announced his retirement at a news conference the week of Super Bowl XXXIX in Jacksonville, Fla.

I think Emmitt has expressed a desire to be part of NFL ownership.

a record never to be broken. 18 years rushing for 1000 yards still you'd come up short... 10 years of rushing for 1800 yards, and still you'd come up short... a record that will never be broken set by a man who could never be broken. salut!

That's what I mean. Jerry could sells a small portion of the team to Emmitt to keep him involved with the team.
