Packers Defense

Their defense gave up 400 yards today and utterly dominated the Lions offense.

It IS an interesting counter-point to those who have been measuring the Packer's defense by 'yard allowed'.

They lead the league in interceptions and seem awfully dangerous to me.

Exactly like the Saints defense a few years ago. They aren't really that good, but they are very opportunistic and know how to protect a lead. If they were EVER losing a game the defense would look very different :laugh2:

There's an obvious reason why the lead the league in interceptions. Teams are throwing desperately against them. Stop that offense, and you can unravel that defense. Who's going to stop that offense, though?

Detroit did, until the 2nd half when Stafford started delivering early Christmas presents to the Packers.

If you control the line of scrimmage, then you can beat Green Bay.

This is a watered down NFL... the Packers have a GREAT offense, but their defense sucks...

This is false, opposing offenses have a 78.1 passer rating against the GB defense. This is really the only stat that matters. Yards don't mean anything when judging a defense. They are not as good as last year when they led the league in passer rating defense but they are more than good enough to win the SB with this defense.

He took pressure off of clay Matthews. Mike neal will help now that he is healthy. As far as woodson goes, he may not be able tocover like he once did but he is the smartest cb in the game and knows what the qb is doing before the qb knows. Packers defense is good enough to get thru the super bowl. And next year when Ted has an offseason to get clay some help, it is going to be bad news for the nfc again. This team is loaded for the next few years.

First time I have heard that conjecture. Watching them he is creating havoc but sacks are down. And the lack of sacks gas had direct affect on their defensive numbers.

Packers currently have the 8th best Pass Defense in the NFL as measured by opposing QB rating.

I get that you seem maniacally focused on yards allowed, however, don't you think that's a rather narrow statistic to measure a defense on?

Pack are the best in the NFL right now. They are 11-0 and they are the defending Champs I tip my hat to their success. I also hope the Boys get the oppertunity to knock them off.

They're giving up 393.4 yards per game, 30th in the league... they allow 6.2 yards per play, again 30th in the league...

You can spin the numbers any way you want, but that is NOT championship-caliber defense... good offenses will eat that defense alive in the playoffs, they'll have to win some shootouts to get to the Super Bowl...

Yards don't mean jack, that's not spinning anything? Teams are constantly throwing because they are behind on GB. Look at the Detroit game, Stafford threw a TD to Johnson with 3 seconds to go in total garbage time, did it mean anything? No.

Teams actually throw the ball more effectively against the Cowboys defense than GB's defense. They also literally allow the same points per game.

The Packers defense reminds me of the Buffalo Bills defense of the early 90s. The Bills defense gave up lots of yards and took advantage of other teams mistakes. When they faced teams that were good at protecting the ball as they did in the Superbowls, they could do little to slow down an opposing offense.

Yes, however, the Packers lead the NFL in interceptions, hence the Packers 78.1 Opposing QB rating (8th best in the NFL).

Sometimes you can look at Interceptions as a somewhat flukey stat, however, the Packers have lead the league in interceptions since 2009 which isn't a complete surprise considerating their trio of CBss (Woodson, Tramon Williams, and Sam Shields) and its obviously a big part of what they do on defense.

I agree their yardage allowed is eye-popping but for years now they have been consistently causing having with opposing passers by forcing a lot of turn-overs.

High Powered Offense + Lots of Forced Turnovers on defense is a fine formula for a Superbowl team -- (see 2009 Saints).

I agree with you there -- I'm confident they will lose at least one regular season game.

I'm not sure who in the NFC, other than maybe the Cowboys or Saints, will give them any trouble in the NFC Playoffs, however. I have no faith that the 49ers can beat them.

The Superbowl is in a dome, and it's going to be hard for any team to match up with the Packers on a fast-track.

As much as I respect the Packers and especially Rodgers, who I still think is the best QB in the league, that team can be beat.

Their defense is average, their running game is average......unfortunately, all the teams in this league are ........well average.

I've been saying this for a very long time, A. Rodgers is a one man gang. Take him out of the equation and you might see how good and valuable that guy is.
