Dallas Was One Of Three To Put Waiver Claim In On QB Kyle Orton

Very little has been made of backup quarterback Jon Kitna's back injury sustained sometime before the Dallas Cowboys game against the Washington Redskins. Most astute observers know that Kitna's inability to throw downfield forced Jason Garrett to adjust his gameplan last season; when Kitna took over for starter Tony Romo. He did, however, guide the Cowboys to a 5-5 record under his guidance and that contribution must be appreciated.

The Landry Hat talked about this too:

According to Todd Archer of ESPN, the Dallas Cowboys were one of three teams to place a waiver claim on former Denver Bronco’s quarterback Kyle Orton on Wednesday. That claim was awarded to the Kansas City Chiefs later that day because of their lower win/loss record. But what does this attempted claim say about the current status of the Cowboy’s back-up quarterback situation?

But more importantly, what does the attempted pick-up of Kyle Orton say about the Cowboys current quarterback situation? Two messages were sent loud and clear on Wednesday: the injury to back-up quarterback Jon Kitna is more serious than previously thought, and the team does not believe that former Aggie Stephen Mcgee is the future for that position.

I'm glad to see the 'boys continually being proactive with trying to improve the team. If what this article states is anywhere near true, the 'boys are probably going to go after a FA QB in the offseason or draft one. Apparently the 'boys don't believe in McGee as a solid enough backup should Romo go down for a few games.

Interesting.
