IRVING -- Cowboys safety Abram Elam (http://espn.go.com/blog/dallas/cowboys/post/_/id/4687549/abram-elams-father-passes-away#comments) left Valley Ranch following Thursday's practice because of the death of his father, Rev. Donald Elam Sr.
Elam is taking Jerry Jones' private plane to Florida to be with family and close friends. It's uncertain if Elam will return for Friday's practice but it appears he will play in Sunday's game at Arizona.
Elam said he was notified about his father's passing around Noon.

Say what you will about Jerry's GM skills but he's a heck of a person! Prayers go out to Abram and his family :(

"In May 2008, when Elam played for the New York Jets, he left minicamp because older brother Donald Elam Jr. had been killed. In 1999, Abram Elam lost his 12-year old sister and in 1987, an 18-year old brother."
Wow that's horrible!

it is the so called little things like that that people tend to remember; there is a reason a lot of FA's want to play for the Boys. They know Jerruh takes care of his players.

Yes he does. He provided his private jet for Abe and for Jay Ratliff last year too when he lost his grandparents too.
My prayers are with the Elam family. Having 3 siblings murdered in street violence and now he lost his father. :(

Elam is taking Jerry Jones' private plane to Florida to be with family and close friends. He always makes his private plane available to his players. Just amazes me how classy that is.

Is he gonna play? Major props to him if he does. Really difficult to play football or any sport with a heavy heart. Urlacher did the same a couple of months ago.

I feel For Abram Elam my father as well died a few weeks ago RIP JMB.
Totally understand if he doesnt play but if he does look out because a team w/ something to play for can be tough but a team playing for someone can be relentless. I think he will tear it up just hope it doesnt take him out of his game.
This guy has been through alot . On another note he has solidified a position for Cowboys that has been sorely missed over last couple years. He is having a great season!
