Titans | Hall's Agent Brings Up Trade Possibility - from www.KFFL.com
Sat, 26 Mar 2005 08:45:44 -0800

Paul Kuharsky, of the Tennessean, reports Drew Rosenhaus, the agent for Tennessee Titans restricted free agent DE Carlos Hall, has contacted general manager Floyd Reese to discuss the possibility of trading his client this year. 'It doesn't excite me,'' Reese said. ''If he gets an offer and we can match, we might want to match and we could end up with him for a couple years, who knows?'' The Titans have the option of matching any offer sheet Hall signs with another club or receive a seventh-round draft choice in return, which is commensurate to the round Hall was originally selected.

Height: 6-4

Hometown:

College:

Acquired: D7-'02
Experience: 3

PRO: Entering his third year, Hall is poised to take over a starting role at defensive end after being a significant contributor in his first two seasons. A converted linebacker in college who is a perfect fit at defensive end based on his ability to utilizing his speed and get to the quarterback from the edge position. As a rookie, he was called upon to start 13 games in place of an injured Jevon Kearse. Hall answered the call with eight sacks and 70 tackles. An outstanding athlete who was highly recruited coming out of high school to play both basketball and football after earning all-state and all-district honors in both sports. Hall became the fourth Oilers/Titans defensive lineman since 1997 named to the All-Rookie first-team (Kenny Holmes, Jevon Kearse and John Thornton). Ironically, the only rookies from the 2002 draft class who collected more sacks than Hall were both selected in the first round and made the same All-Rookie team (Dwight Freeney, Indianapolis, 13; Julius Peppers, Carolina, 12) with the former Razorback. He ranks third on the all-time franchise list for sacks by a rookie trailing Jesse Baker (15.5 in 1979) and Jevon Kearse (14.5 in 1999). An outstanding athlete who has a 42-inch vertical, bench presses more than 400 pounds (415) and holds the Razorback school record in the power clean (365 pounds). He was selected in the seventh round (240th overall) of the 2002 draft.

2.5 sacks last year with 41 tackles. The most tackles he's had is 42 in 02 with 8 sacks....

I say pass

Why would you want him? He had one good season, in 02 when Kearse got injured. He started last year the whole season and IMO stunk it up. He isn't worth the money he and his agent will be wanting.

I thought Hall had potential this year....but he was known more for critical offsides penalities and a few other costly penalties this year than sacks and tackles. Fisher was even upset that he came in lighter than he wanted this year (Fisher wanted 270 and I think Hall was like 245).

Now I do think he's worth a 7th and a backup role.

Exactly.

We need some depth on the DL, and as a back-up, he should be able to contribute. Hall should be a step up from Kenyon Coleman in any case.

I suppose it comes down to the contract we'd be willing to give to a back-up.

He might not be worth the money but he would be a nice situational pass rusher and an upgrade over Kenyon Coleman who we traded a 6th and 7th round picks...
Coleman and a conditional pick for Hall? Hopefully.

Hey we have used first round draft picks on guys with production like that.

Carlos Hallas got 3 sacks against the Eagles in his first ever game as a rookie. Since that time in 3 years he has about 8 sacks total. He's terrible. He would only cost a team a 7th round pick since he's a RFA and the Titans are against the cap so anyone can steal him.

The Titans drafted 3 DEs last year and that was with Hall on the roster.

10.5 sacks in 30 starts after that Philly game. He's not terrible if he's in a backup role. If the Cowboys would want him to be a starter, that would be terrible.

Yeah but the thing is his agent is Drew Rosenhaus, Carlos Hall is not going to play for backup money.

He is an excellent 3-4 OLB. As a 4-3 guy he's a situational pass rusher.

If he returns to Tenn he is starting there even in the 4-3.

Hall isn't going to be a good pass rusher in any scheme because his arms are very short and he's just not a good pass rusher.

He's not starting in Tennessee, Laboy and Schobel will start at DE for the Titans next year.

Why do you say he has short arms Oman? According to his draft profile on nfl.com, he has pretty long arms at 35 1/2". I think more the problem with his size is just his weight, especially for an every down 4-3 DE, he may make a better 3-4 olb. I don't think he's gonna hold off LaBoy or Schobel to start in TN.

OILERMAN

I didn't know his arm length but one of his knocks was he had short arms and the OTs swallowed him once they got a hold of him.

Hall started 14 games last year and had less than Laboy and Laboy only started 2 games. Hall aint starting next year and may not make the roster with his tender being so high comparde to the rookie minimum

I agree, I didnt start the thread saying the Cowboys should sign Hall.

The Titans have Travis Laboy, Carlos Hall or Antwan Odom to start at RDE. Hall is mediocre and the other two guys are promosing yet unproven 2nd round picks from last year.

Remind me again who is the projected starter for the Cowboys at RDE?

Maybe the Cowboys could use someones toilet water

If you read Reese's quotes you see that they actually would prefer keeping Hall for a few years.

He is simply too light for a DE and too big to be a 4-3 LB. He's a hybrid guy who can function as an OLB in the 3-4 which is exactly how he was pegged coming out of college. Back then very few NFL teams played a 3-4 and he didn't have much value at all. Now he is marginally more valuable.

He's not a stud pass rusher obviously but would be a solid rotational OLB in the 3-4.

He was a very productive guy at Arkansas.

Ya gotta admit that's better than any player Dallas has drafted in the last 10 years except for Ellis, and even he's yet to set the world on fire...

I'd like to see him with a legitimate pass-rushing threat on the other side and and a true run stuffer in the middle... Looks like this could be the golden year.

I'd rather have an early pick at RDE than Hall, unless Hall could be had for a bargain basement contract...I wouldnt have a problem parting with a 7th rd pick for him, but not any serious dollars

.

Hall is not a better player than Ekuban, nor is he as talented

and the negative Ellis stuff is real old...the guy is one of the best LDE's in football...just because he isnt Reggie White in his prime (and nobody else is either) doesnt mean the guy sux

Why on earth would anybody want him? It shows a complete absence of fundamental football knowledge to even ask if we'd be interested in him.

I think the reason is because the Cowboys have had a gaping hole at RDE since Haley left.

and I already said Hall sucked and the Cowboys would be better off drafting someone.

Where is this concept of Hall OR a draftee coming from?

Why can't we simply do both.
Hall can probably be had for a cheap but front loaded deal along the lines of 4 years 10 mil with 3.5 mil cap hit this year and 1 mil in years 2 and 3. I'd gladly pay that and a 7th rounder for a spot starter and 3rd DE.

Is anyone gonna cry if we have to cut Kenyon or Protect this house?

Hall is the type of young vet we have been targeting in theory.

OILERMAN

No way in hell is Hall gonna get that type of money. Anyone could get Hall that offered him 1 mill this season alone.

Or just wait and see if he even makes the Titans roster

ROFL.
As usual football fans underrate actual NFL players and overrate draft picks.

Oiler you are seriously silly if you think the Titans are going to cut a guy they wont even discuss trading. He started 14 games last year and you lose a DE. So 2 backups have to stay healthy and beat him out in camp. Something they didnt do last season. And even at that you suggest he wouldnt stay as the 3rd DE which is fairly hard to imagine. The Titans would love for someone to offer him a 4 year deal with a small cost this year and next so they can match.
