It rained last year and my satellite signal went out before Dallas made their pick in the second.

The issue has been resolved for this year.

I usually like to sit on my couch all day (to keep it from getting away) and consume a few adult beverages. I typically watch the entire draft as well. For something that should be boring, I find it utterly fascinating.

A couple of years ago my wife to be had a bridal shower at my house during the draft. Therefor I was kicked out of my own house for that day. I threatened her that if she touched my TiVo and stopped the recording of the draft I would not marry her. I ended up hiding all the remote controls that way someone couldn't change the channel on accident.

I live for the NFL draft. Kind of reminds me of when I was a kid on Christmas morning. The night before you are so excited about what presents your might get the next morning that you can't fall asleep. I'm the same way now, the night before the NFL Draft. I can hardly wait to see what new player were going to pick up.

Every year I get together with a fan of the Eagles, Redskins and Giants. We usually go to the Skin's fan's house and we have a huge tailgate like party. Ribs, Burgers, beer (for them, I don't drink anymore) soda the whole smack. Eveyone akes a specialty to bring as well. No women at all just us guys from the first pick till the end of the day. Then on Sunday we usually watch the draft on our own, but we do watch the whole thing. It's the next best thing to a Cowboys Super Bowl.

I won't miss a pick, in fact I'll be watching it in ESPN HD this year (not that the HD really matters) while sitting in the CowboysZone chat room.

Incidentally, my son was born on the week before the draft four years ago. Not to worry, they sleep all day when they're first born and are awake all night. :) You'll be distraction free during the draft!

I go to the local sports bar every year and watch until the Cowboys pick. Then after that, it depends on my girlfriend situation. Last year I wasn't dating anybody, so I spent the entire weekend watching the entire draft, pigging out on fast foot food and soda (I'm typically very health conscious about what I eat, so it's a big change for me).

I just started dating somebody, but who knows if she'll be in town or whatever. I definitely always catch the first round at a sports bar that has fans there because there's always one team that screws up or does something disastrous and it's hilarious to see their fans go nuts. Last year, after the Eli Manning trade, a bunch of Giants fans had one of the greatest reactions I've ever seen.

For me its not as easy as the rest of you....First of all I have to plan on getting rid of the wife and 5 kids for the day. This year they will be at Kings Dominion (like 6 flags) or maybe even better I can get them to go to GA for the weekend. I think it would be cheaper for me to actually go to the Draft next year than getting rid of all them.

Thought...... a group of guys\gals form Cowboyszone should be represented at next years draft.......Intresting Idea.........

Last year I watched it with some friends who watch football religiously but don't know the finer points of the draft. They asked so many questions that I basically felt like Mel Kiper minus the salary minus hair sponsered by Teflon.

I plan to watch it at my house and chatting online. Better to discuss it online so I can ignore people when I want. :)

last year when we needed a RB and jackson plummeted into our laps - me and my youngest brother were high-fivin' and raisin' the roof.

then they announced we traded the pick to buffalo. i almost dislocated my jaw when my chin dropped.

today that trade looks like a stroke of genius - but that day i darn near had a stroke.

will they air the draft on ESPN and ESPN2 again?

Last year they had a draft party a Gilley's here in Dallas. They said some of the players were there, as the Cowboys sponsered it. I usually stay at home with my computers (you know if you are a geek when you use your vid card to run dual screen, both of them make four!!!) and the TV.

Once I did a draft board- but that was too much work.

I always watched it all day when Dallas had the multiple picks from Minnesota, you knew there was so much talk and info about Dallas then. My greatest draft day memory, was the selection of Emmitt. Living in Florida at the time, following his career in high school and college, that was a sweet moment :D . The past 5 years because of my work and traveling, it has been a combonation of watching and taping.

This year, however, sadly :( I cannot watch it, or follow it too close on the interenet. No ESPN (even though the hotel here said they will try to get it) and the 15 hour time difference between Korea and Dallas, I will be asleep most likely. Will have to settle reading about it the next day. I was looking forward to the movement with multiple first round selections. But an opportunity came up I could not pass up. Hopefully I can return for the season opener or shortly after.

I am usually in some form tied to work but generally focus on the draft about 99% of the time.

I watched my first draft in 1982 (Rod Hill) and was hooked.

It was a big deal to me and my family and friends thought I was nuts. They finally learned to leave me alone on that day.

It used to be on a Tuesday morning and would start at 6 a.m. (Mountain Time). I would go out the night before (draft day eve was like Christmas Eve to me) and load up on junk food ... my usual draft deal meal back then was Dr. Pepper, pepperoni pizza and a Mr. Goodbar. I've since replaced the pizza with chicken wings.

When ESPN and the NFL moved it to the weekends, and made it more available for the casual fan, it wasn't quite the same anymore. I loved getting up when it was still dark, skipping my college classes that day, and watching Pete Rozelle, Chris Berman, George Grande, Bob Ley, Howard Balzer, Paul Maguire and Paul Zimmerman.

I was so sure that the Danny Noonan-Ron Francis (1987)draft was a beauty for Dallas. Zimmerman was so cynical that he was fun to watch ... made me laugh. He hated Dallas' pick of Billy Cannon Jr. in 1984 ... said they picked him because he was one of those workout types who looked good in his underwear.

When Mel Kiper came on (I think around 1984 or '85?), he added a lot to the broadcast. I subscribed to his books for many years before I realized I could get most of the same info on the Internet.

One thing that's a little different about me is that I refuse to watch it with anyone. I don't want any interruptions (I used to tape it and watch it the next off-season leading up to the next draft). I don't want to have to answer any questions from casual fans ... just leave me alone.

I'm not as bad as boozeman, who used to send his wife and son out of town for the weekend for their own safety (back when Jerry was having trouble with his second-round picks), but I was pretty hard core for a long time.

I'm a little more normal now. I don't tape it anymore. But I still want to be left alone.

Me and Fletch sit back and watch the first day routine and post to the boards. It's just a good day to sit back, eat lots of food, and talk football all day.

The most memorable draft was when we picked up a very solid stock of players in 2002. I about soiled my pants when we let the clock run out and all the sports anchors were going "what the heck happened", we then commenced to drop back two spots and still were waiting for Roy Williams to fall to us... After KC picked up Ryan Sims, Minny was on the clock and that was who they wanted bad as well. I was cringing that Minny didn't take Roy because they said earlier that off season that he was one of the players they targeted, but just not quite that high... Roy had said out loud on talk shows that Dallas was where he wanted to be... I just didn't want another Randy Moss situation and that at the last minute Roy goes elsewhere and we get whipped everytime we faced him.

The worst draft was back in 1996 when I knew we needed defensive line help... I think the draft was at night back then and we were on the clock... UT DE Tony Brackens was right there for the pickings and we dropped back into the second round and passed on him. Well time went on and Tony Brackens had a pretty good career in Jacksonville and we of course picked Kavika "Fireball" Pittman who spent about 5 years here doing relatively little and averaging about 5 - 6 sacks per year... Also a liability against the run he went to Denver after that and has been injured about every year he has been there... One of my all time drafting "BONEHEAD" moves I blame on JJ.

As funny as this sounds... I always watch it with my Mother.

Football is the one thing we do together.

I always watched football with my father... he was the one to taught me football. My mother was always there too, watching with Dad, yelling for the Cowboys.

My father died on Super Bowl sunday in 1991 (yes, really on Super Bowl Sunday), and ever since then, I've watched everything Dallas with my mother (my wife doesn't like to watch football and none of my friends really share my passion). She really doesn't have anyone to watch football with, so it has just become our thing that we do.

She knows her football too... I swear, some of the picks she wanted us to make would've been a heck of a lot better than what Jerry and Lacewell have picked.

I can't remember when I got hooked but it was long before '82'. My first wife and my three boys usually watched the drafts with me but they couldn't stay put for the whole thing! Like most of you I really preferred to be alone.....me and my draft charts (at least 3 or 4), my pencil and paper and other assorted tools of the trade. In the early drafts there was not much media coverage, just a few stories in the local papers and a few remarks on the late TV sports news.....also NO COMPUTERS! Ugh! I recall that there were 12 rounds of drafting and everything was like in slow motion! Things really got to jumping when ESPN took over the draft and computers came on line (a little pun)....you could now find everything you wanted to know to enlighten your draft day. Now, as most old geezers do, I sit in my den, prepare all my charts and stuff, make sure I have plenty of Diet Dr Pepper (do we all like Dr Pepper because the home office is in Dallas?), assign chores for my 2nd wife (she is to check in about every two hours to see if I require food or other necessary draft items). Since she is from MN she is allowed to ask one question about 'how the Vikings are doing in the draft'. If I curse or holler she quickly realizes that the Vikings' selections are better than the Cowboys and exits rapidly. As I have grown older I have mellowed slightly and my cursing and screaming is more on a limited basis and that is probably good! Will April never get here! I am ready to get into an attack mode ;)

Actually, I'm old enough (37) to remember when the draft was held on a WEEKDAY, which meant I missed it at school. Finally, the NFL wised up and moved it to Saturday.

Deal. When you try some NY style pizza and Buffalo chicken wings, we'll have to move you in because you won't wanna leave.

Happy Easter Pops.
I go with Grimaldis under the Brooklyn Bridge for pizza and it is awesome, the chicken wings aren't hot enough tho, NY'ers are wussies with the spicy stuff:)

I buddy from Brooklyn goes to eat wings all the time at Buffalo Wild Wings and is a laughing stock for his girly man mild selections. LOL. That same silly guy also said you need to go to Chili's for good barbecue:) ROFLMAO.

Yes ,I used to love grouchy Dr Zs refreshing negativity and journalistic sense of questioning authority. Contrast it to todays all day love fest with every pick (Thiesman is the worst with this) guaranteeing future success for the team that made it. Its awful really. They should play back some of the comments made after last years picks this year to get a sense of how little these guys know.

I agree. Dr. Z helped balance things out.

Even Kiper has softened up in recent years.

They need someone on there who isn't afraid to use the word "sucks."

Every year something always comes up that ruins draft day for me. last few years, I've had to ref. And this year is no different. I just remembered it's my mom's birthday weekend, and I may have to go up to DFW and actually be a good daughter and spend time with her...darnit...:banghead:

I'm hoping maybe I can put her off til Mother's Day weekend or something.

I just want to watch it by myself on the big TV. None of my friends share my passion for sports, which is cool. Cuz they would just annoy me anyway. Had a friend come over on SB sunday and was watching the game. Supposedly a "Pats" fan cuz she's from there, and that if they won, her son's starter jacket would still be in style... I think all on here could appreciate my looks, she got throughout the game due to her lack of knowledge...

Saturday, April 23rd, 11 am...

Wife: "What are you doing, baby?"

Me: "I'm about to watch the draft."

Wife: "For how long?"

Me: "Today and tomorrow."

Wife: "Didn't you do the same thing last year?"

Me: "Yep. And the year before that and the year before that and..."

Wife: "Can't you think of... umm... (she starts to unbutton her blouse)... anything better to do..?

Me: "GET BEHIND ME SATAN!!! AND GIVE ME THAT DAMN REMOTE!!!"

Wife: "Take your damn remote! You don't love me! boo hoo hoo!"

Me: "Yeah, yeah. You'll love me again on Monday and... HEY! Where did you hide the beer??? [grumble... darn woman does this EVERY year...]"

Even Kiper has softened up in recent years.

I know...what's up with that?

I loved the confrontation he had with Polian of the Colts years ago. He totally trashed their first round pick and Polian accused Kiper of being an amateur working out of his basement. LOL

I remember he also really ripped the Jets pick of Jeff Lageman one year. You don't really see him do that anymore.

It is kind of funny seeing him take himself so serious.

I agree, ESPN has done a fabulous job with the drafts since they've taken the reins. Each year there seems to be a storyline, Ditka trading all his picks for Ricky Williams, Jerry's trade down to get Roy Williams, Randy Moss falling into the 20's, etc.

This is an especially strange year, considering we're literally three weeks away and no one has any idea how the top three picks will fall.

Incidentally, this thread rocks ! I've really enjoyed reading all of your stories.

Nice, BC. Watch your back with all those Giants and Jets fans there.

I went last year and the Giants fans weren't too bad. The Jets fans are a different story though. They act like the NFL draft is thier territory and they aren't affraid to let you know about it.

You would be amazed at how many hopeful people come from all over the U.S. just to get in line to be one of the few to grab tickets at 12 Midnight, only to be sitting at a bar later watching the draft because they didn't get in line early enough.

This is my Christmas. I treat the day like a holiday. I won't answer my phone. I love to cook on the grill.

My all time favorite draft was the one where we got Emmitt because I really wanted him.

My least favorite was probably passing on Randy Moss because I had a lot of friends over and had talked him up huge. I got a lot of grief back that year, and every year since.

I had a blast with last year's draft because Dale was at Valley Ranch and in the Chat Room with a bunch of us keeping us up to date on what was going on. I think we had 167 people one time when I counted. It was alive. Especially when Jackson was there. Then the trde and I swear the emotions in that chat were all over the place.

Good memory.

you do that, but I highly recommend tracking down so Chimay if you ever get the chance. It's really pricy, but man, thos monks make a brew so good I'd consider joining the church if I got to drink it every day all day

...brand name in 20 years since I was in Europe. The monks make a delicious brew at the Notre Dame Abbey and an excellent Trappist Cheese.

I also recommend the brand called Rochefort. I looked at the price of them a couple of years ago in the specialty section of the provincial liquor board store and dropped my eyeballs on the floor over the price per bottle.

The most premium Belgian brand I can afford now is Stella Artois and that's probably horse urine compared to the monk's beer.

Usually it's just me and my bro watching the draft. Kicked back at his pad last year. We freaked when the Cowboys had Stephen Jackson fall into their laps, only to trade down, and out of the first round.

Talk about gnashing of teeth. But looking back, it seems to have really payed off. My guess is we do the same thing we did last year.

Wake up a little before, grab a little field and set and watch it from start to finish. While listening to my roommate making fun of me for watching the entire thing, then ask me questions about every single one of his teams picks since he doesn't know squat about college football..
