Asked on KRLD-FM today whether he might make a change at head coach if the Cowboys miss the playoffs, Jones offered a testy response.
“That is not a question worth responding to,” Jones said, via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Then Jones proceeded to respond to the question.
“The answer is no,” Jones said. “We are just getting started here.”

I would be shocked if Jones did not give Garrett more than 1 year as a HC of the Cowboys. If this was a 1 year prove it season then Dallas would not have made as many changes on the OL as they did. I think Jerry plans include Jason being the HC for a while.

I definitely agree with you.
I think Jerry has envisioned Jason Garrett being this team's head coach for quite some time.
I can't imagine him pulling the plug so quickly.
Besides, I think Garrett deserves more than just one year (with an abbreviated offseason) to truly make his mark on this team and develop into the head coach that we all hope he can become.

as critical as i've been on Garrett, i will be genuinely pissed if Jerry fired him after one season. we cannot keep this coaching position a revolving door.

Garrett will right the ship. He is learning and deserves more than 1 year to put it together.
How many years did Payton get? McCarthy?
This quick fix doesn't work. This off-season will provide a lot to this team, FA, draft and full training camp and OTA's.
We need better players. Most of the blame is on them. Not the coach.

I'll take it one further. I'd be shocked if Jones isn't pleased with the job Jason has done in his first year, overall. I'm sure he's pissed about the clock mismanagement, and I'm sure he's not happy that we lost on Sunday, but I betcha he's not blaming the head coach or the head coaches' plan for this team.

Jerry always stands behind his coaches (until suddenly he doesn't), but there is no say Garrett is remotely in jeopardy of being fired.

Uh, Payton's first year as a HC took a team that had been 9-39 the previous 3 seasons to a 10-6 record and the NFC Championship game while winning Coach of the Year.
Barring something miraculous, I don't think Garrett's name is going to be too prominent on the COY ballot. Especially with the job 1st year coach Harbaugh is doing in SF.
McCarthy went to the NFC Championship in his 2nd year, so I guess the answer you are looking for is 1 and 2 respectively.
Not saying Garrett should be fired or anything, but lets not pretend these two coaches were given some sort of long leash before they won.

McCarthy also went 8-8 his first year, and the year after they won the NFC championship, he led them to a 6-10 record the following year.

Jones dismissed Wade Phillips being fired, right up until he fired him. Even though we were assured by insiders he would not.
Not that he would fire Garrett now. That's still 2 years or so away when he finally gives up on him and his idiotic dream of a glory days revival.

People do realize that our record is already better this year than last right? And, we're relying on more young players, which is a good indicator that we are getting better.
Firing the head coach would be literally the dumbest thing that we could do.
This place is overreaction city lately.

I think Jones really believed he wasn't going to fire Wade, right until the total surrender to Green Bay. That took the decision out of his hands, he had no choice after that game.
As nut-busting as this season has been, I don't think any of the collapses this year have been out and out lack of effort like that game.
So Garrett has that going for him at least.

Pretty much, any head coach you are willing to sign should be given at least three years to implement their plans.

JG will not be fired! I'd stake your life on it. I'm sometimes critical of Garrett and get mad at him at times, but I believe he can do the job. We're going through some growing pains, but I like a lot of the changes he made with some of the players he got rid of.
A couple of coaches need to go, especially Campo. The spawn of Buddy gets another year to fully implement his system and fill some holes on defense, if he can. However, if he were to miraculously get a HC job I wouldn't cry crocodile tears. Look at the job Ray Horton has done in Arizona as a 1st yr. DC. That defense is playing awesome.

There's no chance Garrett is going anywhere for at LEAST two more years and even then, it'd take a pretty massive implosion. Jerry has hitched his wagon to Garrett and that's that.

Granted he was coaching an expansion team, but Tom Landry didn't have a winning record until his SEVENTH season.

Garrett won't be fired after this season even if the team loses the next three games. However, maybe JJ can make some changes. Depending on the language in the contract, maybe JJ can hire an OC. Or he could hire a wink wink offensive consultant to "help" Garrett with playcalling
And if Garrett don't like it, well, Garrett could always get up and quit. Which wouldn't bother me one bit. Could it happen? Don't know. Would it happen? Very, very highly unlikely.
Cowboys don't need a fiasco like Snyder stripping Zorn of playcalling duties here.

Garrett should not be fired! He just needs a real defense and O line...then you will see something...now those young guys are just getting started,,Kowalski, Costa, Arkin and Nagy...Smith too....things will be different next week....the D needs changes and the O line just needs to get stronger and more savy...

Winning Coach of the Year and getting the franchise to the NFC championship game for the first time ever your first year buys you some slack.
