IRVING -- The Cowboys decided to practice outside in the rain Wednesday at Valley Ranch and only two players on the active roster were not seen on the field.

Nose tackle Josh Brent (knee) and receiver Andre Holmes (hamstring) were absent during the portion of practice that was open to the media.

Safety Danny McCray, a major special teams contributor who has been bothered by a high-ankle sprain, returned to the team's headquarters after making an early appearance.

We've actually been pretty amazingly healthy this year. Yeah, I know some key guys have missed a number of games, but who's gone on IR? Murray, Nagy, Kitna, Radway and Buehler. Two backups and three guys where the "backup" had been or could have been the starter and the dropoff is minor.

It's good news/bad news. Good in that we've been one of the most healthy teams for several years running, suggesting that we're doing something right. Bad in that we can't bank on a bump in performance from better health next year.

I like the outdoor pratice. Teams should take EVERY opportunity to practice in all types of weather conditions. Troy Aikman would have benefitted from some rainy practices. He always moaned about throwing a wet football.
