View Full Version : Gosselin: Eagles, not Cowboys, are the best in the NFC East

On how the Cowboys will fare against the Eagles on Saturday:
Sabin: Directly after the game, the Cowboys were already talking about Philadelphia. They remember what happened that night. It was a pretty awful performance on the Cowboys’ part and they do want a measure of revenge. Unfortunately for them, Philadelphia seems to be on the rise again, so they’re very dangerous. I expect a pretty tough game for the Cowboys.
Gosselin: Philadelphia right now is playing the best in NFC East. This is most talented team in the division. They’ve stumbled along the road, but right now, they’re playing the best. There’s only three teams in the NFL that rank top 10 in both offense and defense. Philadelphia is one of those teams. They rank higher in offense than the Cowboys, they rank higher in defense than Cowboys, they’ve got a better pass rush than the Cowboys. It’s going to be all the Cowboys can handle getting out of this with a win.

The Packers are 20 times better than the Chiefs. The Saints are 50 times better than the Rams. Anyone on any Sunday can be beat. All that Philly talent got them to 6-8.

You are what you are ..
In the last four games ..
* Eagles lost to the Patriots at home 38-20
* Eagles lost to the Seahawks 31-14
* Eagles beat a bad Miami team
* Eagles beat a bad Jets team whose only win this year against a tough team was against Dallas and that was at home and required a Romo meltdown
One lopsided win does not make a team great .. look at the Cowboys versus Buffalo earlier this season. Look at the Jaguars .. two weeks ago they won 41-14 and this past week they lost 41-14.
The Eagles need help to win the division. The Giants and Cowboys control their own destiny.
You are what you are .. and they are 6-8 ..

They are the flavor of the week, just like Giants last week. Since they beat us in October, they are 3-4 and lost to Seahawks, Cardinals and Bears and got blown away by Pats. It is not like they are on any significant strech of winning streak. They are 2-2 in last four games. In summary, they are an average 7/8 wins NFL football team.

I'm hoping for a win, but expecting a loss. I don't like the matchups in this game.

Sadly, I agree. Dallas' defense struggles against offenses with speed and playmakers at the skill positions.
Dallas MUST weather the early storm and keep it close, as Philly hasn't won a game that was decided by less than 7 pts.

Goose wasn't saying the Eagles were the best a couple of weeks ago, funny how that changes, he was one on thei

.....we matchup HORRIBLy vs. this team: god awful nightmare at LB for us. We better draft and sign some LB's next year: probably the reason we miss the playoffs this year.

That's nice.
They can be the best team in the NFC East while they're sitting at home in January watching Dallas play in the playoffs.

I wouldn't exactly rule the Redskins out as one of the best playing teams right now in the NFC East. Sure, they are eliminated but that is a pretty good team right now and I wouldn't want to be playing them right now. And they are doing it without three of their key players, Davis, Williams, Landry and a bunch of other players they lost to injury. And they are doing it with Rex at QB.

If they were that good they wouldn't be 6-8

This is the game where Rob Ryan should give Bruce Carter 2 assignments - watch ONLY 7 & 25. PERIOD. Or, 25 & 87. Make it simple for him and, for God's sake, keep 51 & 56 on the bench unless it is short yardage situations.

Goose will twist anything he can to say that the Cowboys aren't good and other teams are better. It's been his M.O. for years.
We've scored more points than the Eagles. We've allowed fewer points than the Eagles. We've won more games than the Eagles. We're seventh in the NFL in turnover margin, while the Eagles are next-to-last and easily lead the league in turnovers.
You can bet that if the facts were reversed, Goose would be citing those as proof that the Eagles are better.

Have the Jets beat a team of the caliber of the 49ers? In a game that btw, their star quarterback gets hurt and has to come back because the backup threw 2 picks?

No, they just beat us and have the same record
Again, if they're bad then so are we. I don't believe either team is bad however.

If we're going this route, shouldn't we look at the Cowboys too?
Barely beat the same 'bad Miami team' a few weeks ago.
Lost to the Arizona freakin' Cardinals, icing our own kicker along the way
Gacked up the game against the Giants, blowing a 12-point lead with 5 minutes to go
Beat an awful Tampa Bay squad
We are what we are too

This.
The 2011 Eagles are no different than last year's Cowboys. They were very dissapointing, but played spoiler late in the year. We actually kept the Giants from winning the division last year by beating them in the first game of the Garrett era. They'll play us tough no doubt, but should we fear them just because they beat us earlier in the season? Absolutely not. I honestly don't think we should fear any team in the NFC. As good as Green Bay has been this year they have some serious holes on defense, on the offensive line, and they have no run game. New Orleans like Green Bay is very explosive offensively, but they aren't a great defensive team. They can definitely be exploited there. No team that has Alex Smith as their quarterback should be feared. At some point during the playoffs they're gonna have to air it out and that's when the old Alex Smith will show up. I don't any team should fear us either because as good as Tony is playing our defense while not as bad as last year just isn't very good when it matters. This year often the defense has showed up the first 3 quarters and just collapsed in the 4th. They're not a very clutch defense. Bottomline every team in the conference has it's holes and can be beat.

C'mon now! We all know that trivial stats like how many points a team scores and how many points they give up are insignificant and that stats like how much yardage you've generated and how many yards you've given up are really the only things you need to look at.
The game is won between the 20s, the red zone is just a brightly colored, insignificant piece of turf.
