Creepy or cool?

It's pretty cool catching a thief with this sort of technology, but it's kind of creepy that people can be tracked so easily with these dopey entertainment devices.

A resident of the Westlake Village home awoke at 3:30 a.m. Sunday to find an intruder, who then ran away. Later that morning, the resident notified authorities after using the Find My iPad app to determine that his Apple device was giving off a signal from a nearby home. Sheriff's deputies went to that location, recovered the device and arrested Patrick Krewson, 20, of Vista on suspicion of burglary.

My wife and I have that App and one like it called "Find my Friends" on our iPhones and iPad.

It's cool and you can turn it off if you don't want people to see where you are.

You can also remotely lock or wipe clean all info off of your devices

Kind of adds to the creepy factor for me. If it's possible to be done, what's to keep some enterprising geek from doing it to others' devices? Some things should be a bit more secure than a 'password', which isn't really secure anyway.

It's cool and you can turn it off if you don't want people to see where you are.

That only works for those that you specifically allow to see you. The ones you never agreed too can still see exactly what you're doing and where you are. ;)

Front and rear facing cameras make you have to put extra effort into hiding what you're doing. :muttley:

This is nothing too new......police have been using cell phone signals for years to track down criminals. It's the same idea, really. And for the record, yes it's cool. Don't steal stuff.
