It was reported Wednesday that Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant has been sued for $50,000 by Endurance Capital Fund, a New York-based finance company that helps athletes and entertainers buy luxury items.
Two things jumped out about this: 1) There are -- apparently -- companies that exist primarily to help celebrities procure awesome things and 2) For a multi-millionaire, Dez Bryant sure is sued a lot for not paying his bills.
Bryant is believed to already have taken home $9 million since signing his rookie contract with Dallas before the 2010 season. Even so, the suit filed by ECF is the third debt-related legal issue Bryant has faced since being drafted. He settled two other lawsuits totaling $800,000 earlier this year.
This hasn't been overlooked by Cowboys management. Executive vice president/COO Stephen Jones said Bryant, 23, must learn "to get his hands around what he's doing off the field."

Someone needs to teach him how lines of credit work.
When people have never had money, it's hard to explain how to spend and save it.

Interesting that anytime someone said something like this previously, a legion of homers flocked to say that there were no issues or they were overblown...

Then he'd have to get an accountant to make sure he paid his accountant....so on, and so on.
Infinite regresss.

No wonder he switched to a higher profile agent. He requires a lot more money in his next contract.
Question: Is Dez Bryant Antonio Bryant 2.0? So stupid that he screws up what could have been a great career?
Dez definitely appears to be a moron.

That accountant needs to have a cattle prod to use on Dez every time he tries to do something stupid.

BTW, my credit was 802 last time I checked this past year.

Not really very interesting at all. The issues were overblown and, as is usual with a good rant, the handwringing was premature. You don't get points for starting the caterwauling early.
When the organization outwardly acknowledges the issue is one that can effect Dez's career, that's a reasonable time to decide whether or not it's something to be concerned about.

Yes. By all means. They should wait until the 'caturwalling' is legitimate. THEN we may all rest assured. Oh wait .......

Please. Let's not pretend there's not such a thing as worrying about something prematurely on CZ. It's the basis for such epic threads as 'Jason Witten is Slipping,' 'Demarcus Ware's Sacks Don't Ever Come in Crunch Time,' and 'Should we Hope for a Loss in an Elimination Game Against the Giants on Sunday?'
And let's not pretend there's such a thing as caterwauling. I can pull a dozen examples of that without breaking a sweat.
If you don't know or can't tell the difference between when a criticism is legitimate or not, there are people here who will let you know. That's fine. But if you're going to try to beat the crowd by being the first to overreact to a story, don't expect a cookie from the rest of us. We see the stories, too. We're capable of making the same dramatic leaps to the same conclusions. We just don't do it until there's a good reason to do so.

Because since your credit score is an 802 dez needs to be 803

I hope not but in the end this might end badly for Dez.
There is a reason he lasted so late in the draft and it isn't his physical talent.
I hope he matures and is surrounded by the right people as he could be a pro bowl WR.

There's clearly a head issue. We wouldn't have gotten him in the 20s without it.
You can't help but have the feeling he'll never reach his full potential because of it.

"I've got some familiarity with the details, quite a bit familiarity with the details of this business that he had this week off the field," Jerry Jones said on his weekly radio show. "I would say that that is the reason you have disagreements. I know firsthand that the bill was paid and accepted, so I can't say and wouldn't say any more about that."
Bet you guys feel stupid

I don't think anyone should feel stupid.
Fact of the matter is, Dez made some pretty bad financial decisions that still keep popping up.
So while per Jerry, Dez has improved in a lot of ways and he has resolved this latest issue. Stephen is right when he says that Dez has to get his hands around his off-field life so that he doesn't continue to have these kinda issues constantly coming up.

I guess the same reason why Stephen and Jerry have concerns. The off the field matters can become a distraction for Dez and affect the on the field matters.
In fairness this is as Stephen said something that took place last year. As of late Dez has been doing what he should be doing but he needs to take care of this and put it behind him

All of which are personal and none of any of your business. As long as he catches on sunday what do you care?

and/or confidant, would do to Dez what David Falk did to Michael Jordan earlier in his career: Get him to agree to be on a restricted budget..
At the time, Jordan's budget was $3,000 per week. All his normal bills were paid for ( mortage, electricity, gas, phone, etc ) plus he had $3 grand a week to do with it as he wished. If he had to tap on anything more than that, he'd have to call David and his Dad and explain why. That went on for serveral years until Jordan got a handle on what it was to have money and it taught him a little discipline.
From the outside, it seems to me that Dez is not in complete control of his finances. He knows how to spend, most likely knows how much he has, but doesn't take the responsability for payments. That's a huge, huge, huge problem waiting to happen. Right now is just manageable figures, but if he doesn't learn he could easily end up in a financial disaster where much wiser players than he is right now have ended up even through no particular fault of their own.

It's not OUR business, but it IS the Cowboys business and if THEY believe it's a concern, then it's something that fans should take notice of.
Dez could file for bankruptcy for all I care. However, if his off-field financial troubles distract him from improving on the field, then eventually there's going to be a backlash against him...and the 'boys will move on.
Millionaire talent + 10 cent head = Getting released/traded/non-new contract.

You are absolutely right... Look at Desean Jackson, same thing is going to happen to him...he probably won't get paid by Philly because of his recent "money issues". Shows immaturity and lack of general intelligence/responsibility. Can't really blame them OR the cowboys at this point should they move Dez or not extend him. Obviously there is plenty of time for him to clean it up....but with the recent 2am night club incident, he is slowly starting to tip-toe on the Pac-man trail. Scary.

Dez has improved immensely since the start of the season so all this off the field BS obviously isn't distracting him.

Maybe it has. According to Jerry, he has.
However, I think it's pretty clear he has room to grow as an individual and as a player. I hope for his sake, he does.
As was stated in one of many articles about him, this offseason will be critical for him.

A drug addiction is a "personal" problem too. Check that off the list of things we shouldn't care about also.
