Have you looked at the new Gunsite Ruger Scout? Nice lookin weapon, might not be what you had in mind though. What do you plan on using it for?

I'm left handed, but when I try to use a left handed rifle I don't like it. I'm so used to training on right handed weapons it's not even an issue.

Surprisingly i have met quite a few like that, Steven. My father was one of them. Dont think he ever owned a lefty, and he could get rounds on target with my rifles as good or better than I ever could.
Iceberg, here's a Savage you might like as well:

Obviously its a bit easier to find bolt guns left handed that autos. Not sure I have ever seen a left handed auto in .308. I know there are some AR's that are but I believe that they are only in 5.56. Could be wrong though.

You can't go wrong with a Remington 700. My buddy has a LH Savage in .308 similiar to the one linked above. Nice rifle and the accu-trigger is a real sweet setup.

The Remington trigger can be easily adjusted too although they won't tell you that. I tweaked the lawyer trigger on my Model Seven and improved my groups greatly while keeping it "heavy" enough for a hunting rifle.

Really like that 77/357. Wonder if that rotary clip is configured for .38's as well. Maybe it comes with two clips?

As long as the rear of the magazine sits in the same place as the 357 it should pick up a .38 just as well. I believe the only difference it the head space.

I tinkered with my trigger on my VTR as well. Kind of have to do that with the understanding that you just voided your warranty. I did look last night for left handed 700's as that is my favorite bolt gun, just didnt see a lot of them in stock anywhere.

thanks for all the replies - looking now.

i used to put the rifle on my right shoulder and my friend marty looked at me once and said "what in the hell are you doing" cause i'd push my left eye to try and sight it. he found me left eye dominate and moved the gun yea, it did feel better.

i'm not real sure i'd like the left handed bolt release either. my springfield m1a is right handed and they just don't make a left handed model. the manual even says they won't do it and do what the gov makes you do, right handed. :)

we have a cheaper than dirt down the highway so i may go check it out but i doubt it's one they have in stock, making it harder to do a "hands on" check.

none of my pistols are left handed but the 1911 is fine, the judge and the .357 mag revolver don't really care so i guess i'll be ok.

Same here except with Golf clubs.

That would be awesome, .. I would give my right hand to be ambidextrous.

Same here except with Golf clubs.Don't get me wrong, I put the rifle on my left shoulder. There are ways to work the bolt/charging handle your own way. Just to clarify to OP I fire w/ my left shoulder using right handed weapons. If I try to fire with my left shoulder using left handed weapons it's so awkward due to training w/ right handed all of these years.

My brother shoots lefty and swears by his. It looks like this.

If you don't like the stock then this site (http://www.boydsgunstocks.com/) has some awesome laminate and wood stocks you can order.

I personally like this one.

great input hos - i know you know this stuff.

lever action. anyone have a preference? usually that's what, the rifleman 30-30? not sure right or left handed it would make a difference but since i use both hands depending on the situation, sometime it just doesn't matter.

savage rifles - i just never rated them that high but i don't have a ton of experience. i love browning 30.06 but yea, i've still not shot it yet.

i'll go shoot my m1a tomorrow for the 1st time.

I have 2 and want a 3rd. I have a Winchester 30-30 Model 94 and a Winchester .308 Model 88. The lever action on that 88 is the smoothest action I have ever used. I want a Winchester .22 as well.

I like bolt actions, but I love lever actions.

being left handed the lever action just seems to flow better for me. bolt action is a crossover so to speak even left handed. shoot drop - natural.

i was looking 30-30 just to stay traditional but i also look at "stopping power". a 30-30 will jack up a deer. maybe an elk. but a bear you better be rifleman fast.

.308 drops the bear.

i just have to realize it's not all about max power every time. but i do love a .308 round overall.

Lever guns are great! Henry's are nice as well, dunno if they even make a 30/30 though. All kinds of options with Marlins. You can even get 308 although it isnt 7.62X51.
Hoss you're gonna get me in trouble. I just bought a new carry piece when I was home last month. Pretty sure the Mrs. will not understand me buying something else! O well she's been mad before...

BTW Browning makes a lever gun in .308 Winchester (ugly as sin but here it is)

i'm actually looking at a marlin. i know they're not a winchester, but hell, i have a springfield m1a - i got one of those.

i just want a western type 30-30 that's dependable, not an all world beater.

marlin seems to be calling me.

I am still trying to find a way to sneak a SOCOM into the house without getting caught. M14 is my all time favorite rifle. One day... Marlin makes an excellent rifle man. I have owned several over the years and regret letting them go.

marlin seems to be what i'm looking for.

tomorrow i want to shoot:

.357 mag pistol. s&w highway patrol pistol
sti - 1911 .45 acp
mosin nagant - gotta ya know?
springfield m1a. it's "entry level" but an entry level m1a is pretty bad to the arse.

the 30-30 marlin just feels right. can't explain it after that.

this is fine for what i would do - just have fun w/it.

Sounds like fun. I dont own a Mosin Nagant but have shot a few. Very tough to beat for the price. Pretty tough for a lot more than they cost. Wasnt long ago I was looking at some place online had em for less than a hundred bucks. Been drooling over STI's for a while. Another one of those "one of these days guns"
I just joined the Angelina Rifle and Pistol club back home before I came back to work this hitch, planning on burning up quite a bit of ammo when I get back on land.

mine was a present and i got the easy eye scope. i also got a brittish .303 that was american made, as a present from this friend.

come to think of it, he gave me the .357 i'm going to shoot tomorrow. : ) it's a history example of a nice sniper rifle mass produced. but i'm glad to have one.

the sti is the entry level .45 acp that .45 auto jammed in 1st time to fire. i'll go in tomorrow w/acp and try again even though same bullet. being new, i just gotta be patient. but it's a sweet gun.

What kind of jam? Probably just need to get used. That is pretty common for a new 1911. Especially the upper end production guns. The tolerances a pretty tight, put a few hundred down the pipe and I bet she'll loosen up. Worst case you might need to pull the extractor and just bend it ever s slightly, thats if it is a failure to extract which is the usual case.
Man I gotta get better freinds! lol If you are ever in Lufkin let me know I will take you to the range I go to.

You'll love the Marlin. I had a 336C in .35 rem. I really regret trading that one now.

Now you've got me noticing that I don't have a lever action in the safe. I'm going to have to tell my wife Iceberg made me do it.

There are more lever action 30-30's in the woods during deer season around here than any other firearm. Great shorter range brush gun and you can get some rounds off in a hurry. That .308 must have a kick to it!

That .308 must have a kick to it!It isn't that bad really. It is deadly accurate. If I have it in the crosshairs, it is dead. I rarely have a shot more than a half inch off dead center at 100 yards if I take my time and make sure of the shot. It took me forever to sigh the scope in, but once I got it, I wouldn't move it for anything.

You can't believe how smooth that lever action on it is until you work it. If you are looking for a lever action and can find one of these, I highly recommend it.
