It spells the end for Manning. Pollian would of fought that with every ounce of energy he has. Not that he was against drafting Luck but there was no way he was going to dispose of Manning with out a fight.

Great move. He was as much of the problem for them. Their drafting has been horrible, even worse than Jerry's over the last 5 years. Over-reliance on Peyton and their drafts from early in the 2000s (Freeney, Mathis, Wayne, Clark). With the top draft slot in 2012, they can't screw it up with another poor draft. Just gotta move on and start over

Why is it shocking? The man loses one player and they lose 13 in a row. That's a fireable offense to me. The pats lost Brady for the entire year 3 years ago and won 11 games. Polian should've been fired.

Indy is in full rebuilding mode. Caldwell shouldn't get comfortable.

Peyton's loss alone doesn't explain their season.

Think of the amount of comfort and control Peyton was granted in Indy. He played under the same offensive coordinator, under the same offensive system his entire career. He was allowed to call his own plays. He played under defensive minded head coaches who completely kept their hands off the offense. Finally he played under a GM who always put priority on keeping him happy. 3rd WRs. Nickel RBs. Replacements at LT for Tarik Glenn. They didn't always pan out, but if Peyton wanted one, Polian was drafting one in the first round.

It's very interesting to me the kind of situation Peyton ends up in, because I don't know how he's going to duplicate what he had in Indy. He'll come in as a mercenary and a short timer. His new team may not want Tom Moore as the OC, and/or Tom Moore may just decide to retire rather than take on the task of implementing his system on an entirely new set of players. Will he play for a control freak like Shannahan in a system that doesn't really suit his strengths? If he goes to the Jets, is Rex Ryan just going to step aside and give Peyton unlimited freedom to call his own plays and pull the Jets away from a running/defensive philosophy?

Peyton is straight trade bait. If he refuses to come back to hand over the reigns to Luck in a year or two, he'll be moved this offseason.

I can imagine a team on the brink such as Tennessee, Seattle, Buffalo or Miami would chase him. Of course, it's no guarantee that Peyton's ever going to be able to play again.

Colts Vice Chairman Bill Polian and his son G.M. Chris Polian are out in Indianapolis, according to Chris Mortensen of ESPN.

There’s no official word yet on coach Jim Caldwell. (UPDATE 2:59 p.m. ET: No decision has been made yet on Caldwell, according to Bob Kravitz of the Indianapolis Star.)

The departure of the Polian clan is a seismic decision by owner Jim Irsay after Polian served the team successfully for 14 years. Bill Polian took over as G.M. in early 1998 and made Peyton Manning (http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/1493/peyton-manning) his first draft pick with the team.

Based on those Irsay quotes about Manning being a family decision I think its the opposite. Remember Polian has been out scouting Luck and has been the one who has openly talked about picking Luck.

When you can save millions and millions of dollars by cutting him, then it is something you consider doing. In the end it may not be what they do, but the Colts are at least considering the option.
