bruce just caused a force fumble by running the QB down. A heck of a play. Big motor.

If he gets the angle, his speed rush is  He looks LIGHT though, like no bigger than a tall safety. Looks like he can get overpowered a bit.

Bruce Irvin reminds me of Brooks reed the way he gets into the chest of the tackle and uses leverage to go with His motor.

He looks well coached but almost robotic in his movements . I'd like to see a little more violence
He's got good top speed and a nice frame.

I think we need more overall disruption. The tall QB's can always just step up.
That's why Ware can't always use his speed edge rush. He has to use the bull rush to take a direct line at the QB and still have him should he roll left.
Ware is always going to mix up his rush, but more push from the middle would make his job easier

your looking at the wrong guy the guy we want
Don Barclay, OT, West Virgini 6-4 #305.
Projected 40 Time: 5.16
Projected Round (2012): 3-5
10/28/11 Barclay had a quality performance against Marshall's standout pass rusher Vinny Curry. Barclay allowed some pressure, but did not give up a sack. Quarterback Geno Smith helped out his tackle by escaping the pocket and getting the ball out reasonably quickly. Curry may be the best pass rusher Barclay faces all season, so not giving up a sack causes him to be moved into the mid-rounds. Barclay had a harder game against LSU, allowing some heat on the quarterback, but he battled and had his share of wins.
Barclay is having a strong senior season who has improved his draft stock
left tackle Don Barclay. Overall, he did a good job in pass protection and gave quarterback Geno Smith time to throw. Barclay gave up a sack in the fourth quarter, but it was a coverage sack.
The 6-foot-4, 310-pounder has some quick feet and power. He would be better off moving inside to guard in the NFL and could be a good pick in the middle of the draft.

we are not going to look at Irvin

Because the guy projects to moving to guard in the pro's.

He may need some work, but I like Geno Smith as a developmental QB.

Irvin's draft status solely depends on his size because the athleticism is obviously there for him to play OLB. If he checks in at around 6',2.5", 240+, he would be worthy of a 2nd Rounder in my opinion. Remember, the GREAT Von Miller (could you even imagine him opposite DWare) measured 6',2.5", 246 at the combine last year. Irvin is very similar in his play.

and I really saw some quick moves from him last night - he can get to the second level
and you know the kid is in great shape dang I don't the WV slowed down the whole game

I like Irvin a lot in the 2nd round. I'm scared he's going to test through the roof and move up into late 1st. Even if he's not an every down player as a rookie, even if he could just come in nickel packages and focus on rushing the passer he would be a huge asset.

I dont think he is worth a first rounder. I watch a lot of WVU football and he is beast. Maybe a late second rounder. He is a situational pass rusher, kind of like Aldon Smith. Who knows if he has a good combine then he could shoot up the draft board.

I don't think many project him in the first round. I think some have him in the 2-3 round area. I would not want to take him before the 3rd and would prefer to get him in the 4th or later if possible.
However what could very well happen is he goes to the combine and people see his athletic ability and that can always make a player rise.
And this comes from a WVU homer that loves the kid.
But at this time he is better suited as a situation pass rusher until he can get a little more size on him. I could see him eventually turning into someone like KGB was for Greenbay where he was a situation guy for a period and then grew into the role more.

His frame looks maxed out. About 6'2" with seemingly average arms and already thick arms.
A guy like Andre branch from Clemson has much more room to put on weight.

I love Irvin's speed off the edge and think he has the highest upside out of all the 3-4 OLBs in the draft. Scouts are gonna have to do a lot of projecting with him because WVU's defense was not a very good fit for his skill set, but he's got the athleticism to be a terror off the edge as an OLB. I expect him to blow up the combine.

bruce irvin is quick off the ball, probably the fastest 3-4 OLB in the draft. He also has a non stop motor and he goes all out.
He reminds me of von miller with that sick speed around the corner.
He had a better junior year with 14 sacks. I wonder what happen this year? injuries? anybody knows?
If he drops to us in the 2nd and we didn't take a OLB in the first I would jump all over him.

If we don't go OLB in the first and he's on the board in the 2nd I'd be happy with the pick. We need a pass rusher to complement Ware and he's got a great burst and can flatten out and turn the corner on OTs. He also seems to have some power to complement his speed that he can use on an inside counter for OTs who have over committed to the outside speed rush.
It'll be interesting to see what he does at the Combine.

I'd pick Irvin in the 2nd round and I'd be suprised if he didnt get at least 8 sacks rushing in the nickel and dime opposite DeMarcus Ware. Thats how poorly I think of Spencer and how much I think of Irvins ability to run the arc. Good player who will need a full offseason to become a full time 3-4 linebacker but i'll take that type of production any day of the week. I dont think San Fran is mad that Aldon Smith isnt a full time starter. Its up to the coaching staff to use the talent correctly once the proper talent has been selected.

this. I wouldn't even care if we sign a cheap vet to play just the run downs and sub in bruce irvin on passing downs or figure something out.

I haven't seen him a ton, but I can remember him vs my Terps his junior year. He basically beat us all by himself. Something like 3 or 4 sacks and a forced fumble. Think he knocked our QB out too.
I don't know that he really knows how to do much more than run to the football. He's all athlete and instinct at this point. But he is going to test through the roof.
I'd take him over Ingram or Upshaw six ways to Sunday. Both of those guys are more ready to start, but at best they're Spencer with a better motor. Slow.

I'd definitely take Irvin over Upshaw on the basis of his impact potential and I could live with him being a pass rush specialist so long as we think he can beat NFL OTs. There has to be some concern about his ability to play in the base defense but I hope he'd pick that up in his rookie season and be ready to play full-time in his second year.
I would say that based on the film I've seen I'd take Ingram over him. Ingram looks to be a more complete player who is Irvin's equal as a pass rusher. The bonus with Ingram is that you can probably play him at OLB, DE and DT. You just have to love that kind of versatility in the defense that Ryan is trying to put together here.
