O.K. say we got lucky @ 11,and got one these three, D.J. , Merriman, or Spears. AT 20, we could turn to the offensive side of the ball, Brown is still sitting there, (Right Tackle from Oklahoma) would you grab him ?
Fills a huge need, can start right away. I'm just not sold that Tucker or Vollers will ever take that next step up. I would say take him , let the other two play back up. -Yes, No ?

I dont hate the idea but it conflicts with some ideas that Im already in love with.
Im hoping to trade down that #20 and parlay it into 2 starters like Tuck and Roddy White.

Not saying Brown isn't good, but those guys are generally thought of as among the best defensive players in this draft and top 10 potential on some draft boards.
If Mike Williams is gone at 11 I am sort of hoping we take Alex Barron then use #20 for someone like Darryl Blackstock, David Pollack, or one of those guys if they fall.
A lot depends on if we acquire Darren Howard which I still think is likely to happen.

I like the idea of grabbing J Brown at #20, but it seems like the top OT's shoot up the boards a few weeks before every draft and the 3 B's Brown-Barnes-Barron will prove to be no exception. Personally, the way this draft shapes up talent-wise, I want Mike Williams at #11... or a trade down. The late 1st all the way to the early third seems like it will be a very good place to find quality starters with good upside. I know the loose consensus on this board says Merriman at #11 and trade down from #20, but I think #11 will be the traded pick. If we were one or two players away from contention then I am sure there would be a guy or two at #11 that would be too "right" for us to pass up - but we are far from that. Spears seems like the only DE that does not seem to have a "clone" in this draft, and he is projecting to DT or LE by most scouts. We can surely grab Roth, Cody, Pollack, Tuck, Ware, or Swancutt in the late 1st to early 2nd. I think someone will drop to #11 (Benson RB, Barron LT, Johnson LB, Smith QB, Rolle CB, or "gasp" Merriman DE/LB) that one of the lower drafting "contenders" just MUST have. Thats when we make our move and stockpile picks in the 2-3-4 range.
Barring a likely trade-down from #11, my sig. lists players I would target for value & need. :D

Yes in a heart beat we take him...
1a) Shawne Merriman, DE
1b) Jamal Brown OT Oklahoma
2) Josh Bullocks, FS

No they will not draft an OLineman in the first round. If they drafted DJ at#11, they still wouldn't have a pass rusher:rolleyes: . The Cowboys already have enough young prospects on the OL, if they pick up someone to solidify RT, it will be a veteran like Chris Terry.

I would love Merriman and Brown in Round 1- two studs for the next 10 years and starters on day 1

I do not love the idea of drafting a RT in the first round. LT, ok, but not a right tackle. We should be able to find a RT later in the draft. If we can't and we are forced to draft RTs with #1 picks, then something is bad wrong.

With the Cowboys holes, I feel a lot more comfortable with Tucker, Vollers, or Rogers starting than the guys at the other positions. DE just screams for a player in the first round. GIVE ME MERRIMAN. I still think it would be in the best interest of the team to move FLO to right so that Rogers can man the left side. Rogers will be a quality LT, not being suited for the right side doesn't change that.
RDE - Eric Ogbogu(FA), /LB/Kalen Thornton(FA)
FS - Pete Hunter(6th rnd pick), Keith Davis(FA), Lynn Scott(FA)
WLB- Bradie James(4th rnd pick),
ROT- Torrin Tucker(FA), Kurt Vollers(FA), /LT/Jacob Rogers(2004 2nd rnd pick)

If Rodgers is as banged up as the rumours say he is, he stays on the left and backs up Flozell, I'm not into sliding Flo. over to the right side at all. He's a pro bowl left tackle, leave him at his strength. I think having Rivera on the line will make all our linemen step it up a notch.
Having said that, right tackle must be addressed, if we really want Julius to be able to run to both sides.Brown is a right tackle, not a left trying to be converted. We cant fix every thing in this one draft, so pick a player/ players that can step right in and don't have to change positions or have a huge learning curve. Again, maybe not the sexy choice, but would really shore up the line, and also give us depth with our other players.

Not a lot of teams use 1st round picks for RTs. Some eventual LTs may start on the right but not many draft 1st round OLs to specifically play RT. There is a reason for this.

O.K, but whats the alternative ?WE need to do somthing there, if Brown Or even Barnes is sitting there, takeing one of them seals that spot for years. AS opposed to trying to manufacter a player to that spot. I think this draft we should concentrate on both lines.-Just my opinion, but it's fun to speculate. Of course Bill and Jerry could go in a totally differant direction , and screw all this speculation up!

There are lots of alternatives here. We could trade out of that spot. We could invest in another position. We could even move up. Brown is not the only alternative. To be honest with you, I like Terry, as a RT prospect, better. He'd be cheaper and we could probably get him without spending a 1st.

True, Fill me in on Terry, know the name, but not the player.
On a side note , how do you guy's use the Quote Bar, would make my life a little easier.
Draft time probably the best time of year, everyone is so opimistic, about what could be. This year I'm more so than past years, I can't put a finger on why, just am...

Terry is a straight RT type IMO. Excellent against the run. Plays with good strength and has good feet. He's quick, not fast. Long arms and nice punch. He's 6-8, 320 or so. Good knee bend and plays with good leverage. Comes off the ball well in running game. Started every game since Soph year at Syracuse. He plays pretty well in space and is capable of pulling or getting out on screen plays etc. In fact, the only reason I think he's going to be a better RT then LT is that his balance is not as good as you would like. He sometimes gets off balance and I suspect it is because he is trying to always land that first punch off the line. I've heard some compare him to John Taite and I think that's a pretty good comparison. Also Luke Pettigout or maybe Jeff Backus a few years ago.

Besides Barron, the top offensive linemen in this draft will go from the 15-20 pick range on down. With the 11, we get Mike Williams or trade down. That puts us in the hunt to get a good DE/LB and RT. Hopefully with the trade we pick up a 2nd or a 3rd.
I like Jammal Brown over Elton Brown and I like Dan Cody or Pollack.
All of these guys are Hard Nosed Players and good athletes.

Only interested in RT in the draft, with Flozell and Rodgers we are o.k. on the left side. J. Brown @ 20, or some of the others in the 2nd, is fine with me, just needs to be able to start.Terry does sound good if it's a later pick up.
Like I keep saying, may not be the sexy pick, but definatly an up grade. We shall see what Bill and Jerry think about maning this spot in about 31/2 weeks.
Maulers on the line sounds good, with people like Rivera to Gel them all together.
