I know we got some animal lovers on here and people that will understand.
My wife just called from the Vet and Our family dog is very sick. It does not look good at all. I'm heading down there to be with her and my son.
I ask for prayers and well wishes not only for our family member but my family to give us the strength to deal with this.
Anyone who loves animals and been down this road knows how hard it can be.
Thanks

Update: we just had to put our Scoob to sleep. He had a massive and very aggressive cancerous tumor. Even with surgery his odds were less then 10%.
I'm heartbroken and missing him terribly.
Thanks for all your kind words and thoughts. They are very much appreciated.

Oh man, that is the worst. You can be thankful your boy had a wonderful life that was full of love with your family. That's all they can ever ask for.

So sorry,Sdogo. I've been there a number of times.Always remember, though, that we don't own these lovely companions,we are their stewards. I have said it many times,we will be judged by how well we take care of these companions. I firmly believe you will be judged favorably.

Sorry to hear that Sdogo...
Pets are family members... I know this well as my mini aussie sleeps next to me right now...
Godspeed to you and yours... I mourn your pup along with you... It's painful...

Aw, damn...
Just know that you did the right thing for your dog, your friend...
I hope you and your family heal soon, perhaps thinking about going out and getting a new family dog... that's what I've always done when I lost a pet... you'd be amazed how raising and training a new pup will take your mind off of your loss... and no, doing that would not be disloyal to the memory of Scoob, he'll always be in your heart, just like my Thunder and Bear are even as my Aly sleeps by my feet...

Boy I tell you what guys and gals, I'm finding out what I'm made of here. I carry this persona as a "hard" man in my daily life but this is wrecking me. The only word to describe it is "hurt". Sure feels like something is missing in my life right now.
Just when I think I'm out of tears, I find a way to to shed some more.

I know what you mean. We've lost three Springers over the last twenty something years, one hit by a vehicle, and two that have died in my arms as I've had them put down. Even thinking about each one right now brings a tear to my eye,but I am comforted greatly knowing that they could not have had a better life. Every time I start to feel down about them, however,I always ask myself what their life would have been like had they not been part of our "pack"? They had the best life they ever could have.
It was six weeks before we thought about getting a new pup after our third Springer,Trey, was put down. Our second Springer, Double, was her brother and we lost him to cancer five years before that, again passing in my arms. We were fortunate that we had Trey to go on with, although she missed her brother terribly. After six weeks without the sounds of pups,we got our fourth and fifth Springers, Major & Minnie, and have had them now for two years. They are a blessing, and will continue the line of Springers we will watch over,on into the next ones who share our home and life for as long as we can.
PS-sometimes I swear Major & Minnie are "channeling" our three previous Springers. I like to think of it as a visit from our previous pups who are,in a way, saying "We're OK,and thanks for taking such great care of us".

Good for you... all that shows is that you loved your dog...
I hurt for you, man... my mutt is 14 now, and still plenty healthy, but I know that before too long, I'll be losing her... needless to say, I don't let myself dwell on that...

Thanks for sharing your stories and even though they found a way to bring on more tears, they were comforting.
We do have another dog but i can see her pain and confusion as well. Like your Bear, she is no spring chicken (13 years) but she still has a hell of a bounce in her step.

Make sure to give her lots of love, lots of attention, over the next few weeks... her grief is probably even worse than yours, and you two can help each other...

...about two hours ago I took my dog to the vet hospital.
Some of you may know her. She's the dog I posted in the big thread with pictures of forum members.
She got into a X-mas chocolate bar my daughter left on her dresser and she is very sick right now. Vet thinks she will be okay, but the chocolate is doing some terrible things to her guts right now.

You got my thoughts and prayers brother.
It was hard but we added another family member. It was not my plan but she chose us just as much as we chose her. Its a little hard because she really looks and acts like our "scoob" when he was a puppy. Its the first time i have seen the kids smile in sometime. We have properly named her, "Comfort".

...your family has just decided to share some of the love it has with another one of God's creatures.
That's just a beautiful thing. Enjoy "Comfort" and remember "Scoob". We only have so much time on this world and we might as well do something useful with it.
Congratulations on the new family addition!

Sorry you had to go through all that. I have had 3 dogs put down in my life, and all were hard in their own way. My lab is 12 yrs old now, and fading fast. She has lost her hearing in the past few weeks, is covered with lumps (have not found malignant lumps so far), and has no energy. My kids (9 and 5) will be a wreck when the time comes.

I had my 13 year old Lab put down the first week of December. It's been a full month and I feel like I've made little to no progress getting past it. I'm 38 and he was the first pet I ever owned (my parents weren't pet people). I had him before my wife, before my son, and before my cats. It sounds bad, but I've grieved for him more than the loss of any of my Grandparents...and I was close with them. Man's best friend is an understatement!!! Good luck with your dog Wimbo, and sorry for your loss SDogo.

I've got a big ol' smile on my face, thinking of the fun you're gonna have with a new pup...
I've lost my dogs twice now, and each time I went down to the pound in a day or two and got another pup... picked a winner each time, and it sounds like you have too... I'm also real happy for your other dog, though she's probably plenty confused right now this will be good for her...

My vet is a strong believer that if you have two dogs who have a strong bond and you lose one, if possible you should let the other see the deceased. In her experience this brings some closure to the surviving dog and helps with it's grief and behavior going forward.
