This week marked the 30th anniversary of one of the single most famous moments in the history of our game of football. As any Cowboys fan recalls, January 10, 1982 was the day of "The Catch" in Candlestick Park where Joe Montana found Dwight Clark in the back of the end zone with Everson Walls attempting to lunge and stop this moment in time which defined both franchises in the 1980's in their respective cities.

But, what seems to elude the memory of many is that the catch was made with 0:51 left on the clock. Trailing 28-27, the Cowboys had the ball and needed only a field goal from the reliable kicker, Rafeal Septien. What would happen next would not only define the fates of the teams involved, but also the legacies of two of main players in the game.

I can't read any of these things about that day. It still makes me sick to even recall that game. The hardest loss I ever went through. I always felt if Danny White had won that game, it would have totally re-written his fates. I think White is one of the most under rated quarterbacks in NFL history.

Hicks had the angle, but it would have gone much deeper then the 40 probably at least the 30 and inside. At that point they would have run the ball a little to get somewhat closer; Septien was good from about 45 on in. Yeah that play sticks more with me all the time; Pearson was just BARELY caught.

We win that game and we pretty much would have beaten Cinci as well; we had a team set up to beat them. Danny White wins a SB and the team gets a lot more confident in him. We were so close to a SB win in the early 80's.

Now the 49rs would have been a great team no matter what happened in that game; but I think our guys lost confidence in Danny; just a little. Enough to make a difference; and he had to lose some in himself as well.

I get serious unpleasant flashbacks from that. I have refused to watch that for years and I'll probably go to my grave without watching it again.

I remember that play where the 49er DB barely brought down Pearson.....and to this day, this loss has been the MOST difficult to forget from any of them. It still is stuck in my memory, I remember I was depressed for weeks after this. At that time, I lived the Cowboys.....a bit too much actually.

Luckily, the last several years--or decade, I dont take them as serious anymore, THANKS JERRY, you have cured me.

BTW, I agree Danny has gotten a bad rap even though he did take the Cowboys to several NFC championships---losing all of them. But in Cowboy Nation, no SB wins/appearances= no glory. Listen up, Romo.

Running a close 2nd to Romo being the most Over-Rated. Nice pair of bookends if you ask me.

And just think in todays NFL that tackle would be an extra 15 yards would likely be tacked on to the end of the play. Field goal range right there.

Man how the game has changed.

Me too :puke:

The players on that team are still sick about it, it doesn't seem like losing bothers current NFL players as much
