he'd wipe his behind with Guru, Malik B, and Phife Dawg. Just because you're loyal to old school hip hop, doesn't mean you can't acknowledge when someone better comes in and raises the bar.
I'm from NY and absolutely love Wu and all of that old school stuff, but you have to give Em his credit. Lyrically he's one of the best, probably top 5 ever.

I remember a few years ago he mentioned liking Tony so Im not that surprised hes a Cowboys fan. Heres the quote from a few years back.

Eminem tells Detroit’s Metro Times, “Tony Romo is one of my favorite quarterbacks. So I felt kinda conflicted doing the Jessica thing.”

Old news, he's even rapped about the Cowboys a few times.

Eminem, Lebron and Jay Z are well known Cowboy fans.

I consider Eminem a very good rapper, but not the best alive. He spends too much time goofing around. Dude still has raps about Lindsey Lohan and all that nonsense, it's time to move on.

Lose Yourself is probably the best hip hop song ever written though.

Just never really got rap or the culture that went along with it. I can admit when someone has serious talent even when I don't listen to their music regularly. I am not a fan of Michael Jackson but recognize that he was one of if not the most gifted entertainer of his generation, both in terms of music and showmanship.

That being said, I think 98% of rap music is absolute crap lacking in anything resembling artistic or musical talent. The best thing I can say about the few who don't completely suck is they are good lyricists. The "good" rappers only look good by comparison IMO, including Eminem.

:lmao: :lmao2: I'm laughing w/ u two...especially @ the BTH mention! Em is nice don't get me wrong but the best since the 90s... I disagree! Top 10-definitely & maybe top 5. Nas, BIG, & Pac will always be better than him...no matter how many records he sells! Head to head on "Renegade" he tore Jay up but a listen thru Jigga's discography & you have to be impressed by his wittiness, wordplay, delivery & overall staying power...maybe I'd put them in a tie @ #4! To be honest I don't like alot of Em's music...mainly because of his production, though, not his rhyming.

There are very few good lyricists from Texas, in my opinion. Which is not to say I'm not a fan of them, Bun B and Scarface are some of my favorites but there is a whole lot of terrible hip hop from Texas just like everywhere else.

LOL Nas is one of the top 5 rappers of all time. Anyone who says other wise doesn't know what the hell they are talking about. Emenium is the best lyrist in rap right now, I agree with you on that, but rap is more than rhyming words well. B.I.G was a better lyrist than Pac, but B.I.G wasn't the better rapper. What made Pac great was the subjects he choose to rap about and how he choose to deliver them in his songs.

Damn this thread has reached 6 pages ?! Didn't think it would make it that far. But eminen I thought was great when I was in high school. But the last 8 years since i graduated he has had some songs but just isn't what he used to be. My favorite growing up was busta rhymes. Just loved what he did. And I'm sorry but lauryn hill??? Really ?? She was beyond racist to whites and blacks. She literally hated everybody lol

Honestly Lauryn Hill has more songs (rapping) that I can feel more than Eminem. "Em is just better" really doesnt do it for me. I'm gonna leave it at that

Bro...just stop

Nobody is saying Nas sucks, relax....but like EM said in drop the world, he would run circles around anybody who tries him.

Maybe you don't listen to a ton of EM songs....

Nas is a great artist....I just can't put him ahead of Pac...or Em

Also if he was as good as you make him out to be he would have destroyed Jay Z...although i felt he had the upper hand on Jay at the start, he let it slip, then bowed down

fabolous is nice, i feel like he wasted his career making too many songs for the chicks. he always had a nice flow and crazy punchlines, just weak subject matter.

he'd wipe his behind with Guru, Malik B, and Phife Dawg.

This egn. Biggie and Pac apologists kill me. Both MC's actually had cats out at the time that could smoke both of them. It's damn near impossible to find 3 mc's better than Em right now.

My top 5 in no order:
Jay
Nas
Em
Rakim
Andre 3000

honorable mention:
Biggie (more albums and he'd crack the top 5)
Pac (flow was average but content and emotion were nuts)
Pun (more albums... like a cross between em and biggie, incredible)
Black Thought (just as lyrical as anyone in my top 5 but too underground)
Common (great artist, lyricist, in my top 10)
Mos def (top 10, he'd be in my top 5 if he cared enough to put out more material)

Five is tough, I hate to leave someone out, but I'll slide Black Thought in there. He's incredible really. I wish he changed up his flow more, but he still kills it every time.

I agree on Pac, he's great but I don't bump him as much as others, mostly because of his production. No denying his content though, he was a smart dude and is classic. Don't like leaving Rakim out. Common has been too weak for me lately. Love Mos, and yeah wish he was striving to do a bunch of his own, good stuff.

I disagree. I honestly don't listen to the radio, there are probably a few songs on it that I like at any given time. But, there are sooooo many bad rock/hardcore/whatever bands that just play the same music as the next people. Stuff I could write if I sat down with my guitar for...10 minutes.

And yes, pop-country is god-awful. The thing about that is - NONE of it is good.

Jay is well known as a biter. He says it is in honor, but it is just un-original. Not to mention that hard knock life song. Ugh.

Big also ripped Pac and his style. He really only has 10 good songs, Pac easily has 20. Fab has more than 10 and just never hit the market the way some others have.

KRS is one of my favorites. Yet he lost me after his last strong song IMO..."Love is gonna get ya".

Rakim was the OG without even swearing. I never said Nas is better than Pac.

Fab twists lyrics in a similar way that Em does. They write some serious stuff that most would never even (or haven't even) think/thought of.

Em is better than Jay-Z. Em goes against the trend. No need to try to fit in, make them fit you in.

That's why I gave up discussing it, some of these people acting like you're not allowed to have an opinion..and that if your opinion isnt the status quo then you dont know rap music. For me personally Pac is in my top 5 and arguably best of all time, on any given day I flip flop between him and Nas..thats just my personal taste. Biggie on the other hand, not so much. Eminem? Glad to see some Rakim mentions. As someone who's seen hip hop evolve over the past 30+years no MC gets more respect from me. When rappers were throwing out simplistic nursery style rhymes he came out spitting flames w/ complex verses & the PERFECT delivery! He changed the way MCs were judged & made lyricism a pre-requisite to be called "great"...
