Moore: Cowboys have enough cap space to address major needs

With more cap room seeming to be available than originally believed, how plausible is it that the Cowboys could sign two good offensive lineman?
The Cowboys can manipulate the cap and have anywhere from $12 to $18 million or so to work with in 2012. This will give them enough room to address their major needs. I'm not sure they'd devote a big chunk of that money to signing two, veteran offensive linemen. I'd argue the club's history of signing veteran free agents in the offensive line has driven up there cap. If you want to sign one veteran offensive linemen, go for it. But if you're committed to replacing two players in the offensive line, I'd use the draft to fill one of the spots. It's a better fiscal option and makes you younger where you need to get younger...

They have enough....but will they? We will find out in March.

In many of these arguments, my position is that while Tony is still in his prime, we should live for today and get him some serious OL upgrades NOW. Heck with developing talent - a solid OL who can deal with the defenses in our division is our #1 job, IMO. Secondary may rank a close second, but I'll give Ryan another year and see if he can coach up some players into a solid unit.

Just don't overpay for FA's.
We have LOTS of holes to fill. Get as many as we can. We're not a single player away. Let's get as much help as we can.

I disagree. Sign Carl Nicks and draft DeCastro and we're legit contenders.

I would like to see one major signing on the Offensive line and one major signing on the defensive line. Then draft a top G in either round 1 or 2 and a good lineman in round 3 (I have CB reserved for either round 1 or 2, depending on where we draft a G).

So assign rounds to certain positions.
No thank you.

Drafting Tyron Smith was an excellent answer to the Giants and Eagles propensity to stack their defensive fronts with high draft picks and quality free agents. Washington has two first rounders at their rush edges, too. Sooner or later, you have to counter the NFC East's defensive moves by adding blue-chip players to block their defensive fronts. Like I stated during the last draft debates, how many high draft picks are you going to allow the Giants, Eagles, and Redskins to put on their defensive lines before you decide to answer them with a blue-chip offensive linemen.
Two other excellent answers would be Carl Nicks and David DeCastro.
The job isn't finished on the interior, and Dallas has the skill players on offense to win big now. Tyron Smith was the 20 year old, blue-chip cornerstone, and it's time to build on that solid foundation. Protecting the QB and opening up holes for the two young running backs should be the priority.

Two major holes to fill as I see it. OG, CB. You have to get both either in FA or the draft. If you can get both in FA, then draft the best player available regardless of position.

nicks will be 10 million easy so after that we basically can get a 6-7 million corner and a 2 million back up QB. after that we need space for rookies and FA so restructure demarcus ware cut newman...etc?

Michael Griffin
Brandon Carr
Sign a DE or olb
Draft another CB/olb/DE
And we are good to go
and maybe find a Guard in FA
