View Full Version : Pauline's Day 1 Winners + Losers By Tony Pauline
Tony Pauline, NFL Draft analyst for SportsIllustrated.com, reports from the Senior Bowl exclusively for PhiladelphiaEagles.com ...
MOBILE, Alabama -- The Senior Bowl kicked off this morning in as almost 100 players were measured and weighed for the league’s 32 teams. This year’s roster is a strong one with a number of potential first-round picks on both the North and South squads. The pads were popping this afternoon as the North squad took to the field for the initial practice of the week. Here’s a breakdown of the players that looked good and those who were not so fortunate.
Moving Up
Mike Adams/T/Ohio State: Adams spent most of the season on the sidelines for his participation in Ohio State’s infamous Tattoogate, but he looked like he’s never missed a snap of football today. Adams looked the part measuring in at 6-7, 323, then he played to it on the field. After taking a bit of time to get his feet underneath him, Adams was dominant all day, mostly lining up at left tackle. What’s exciting about his game is the way the big blocker easily moves about the field. He’s quickly rising up draft boards and a lot of people believe Adams will end up in the top half of round one when all is said and done.

I starting to think Adams is in the mix.

Adams is a tackle. We won't draft him

Why not? Shut down LT is a valuable commodity. Free can move inside. LT is a premium position, as much as I love DeCastro I would not mind another stud tackle instead.

It'll never happen... Free is your starting RT for the future, Smith is your LT... there is some concern when it comes to depth at OT, but you don't address depth concerns with the 14th pick in the draft...
I could see the Boys going after a tackle late in the draft, but will be quite shocked if they go that way in the first round or two...

I would much rather go after Bobby Massie in the fourth of fifth round as a developmental tackle . He is a6'6" 330lb tackle with a high ceiling that can also play guard . He just needs coaching and time .

Senio Kelemete/OL/Washington: Kelemete looked like the most athletic offensive lineman on the field today and did a great job handling the left tackle spot, where he spent the day. He moves his feet well, displays terrific quickness and handled the speed rushers that lined up against him. The big question about Kelemete is whether his 6-3 ½ frame will allow him to play left tackle at the next level or whether he’ll be forced to move to GUARD.

That's a good call-- if he slides that far... NFLDS currently has him rated their 75th best player, if they're right about that he'd project to the 3rd round...
Here's three late round tackles for your consideration:
Marcel Jones, Nebraska... 6-6, 325 pounds, 5.25 second 40... a 5th or (more likely) 6th rounder, his stock seems to be rising...
Levy Adcock, Oklahoma State... 6-7, 325 pounds, 5.2 second 40... his stock seems to be falling...
Jeff Adams, OT, Columbia... 6-6, 310 pounds, 5.0 second 40...
And after the draft, there are a number of prospects that I'd look into possibly signing:
Bradley Sowell, Mississippi... 6-7, 320 pounds, 5.25 second 40...
Joe Long, Wayne State... 6-6, 316 pounds, 5.25 second 40...
Charles Burton, Montana... 6-5, 320 pounds, 5.2 second 40...
Grant Freeman, Arkansas... 6-7, 310 pounds, 4.95 second 40...
Jermarcus Hardrick, Nebraska... 6-7, 325 pounds, 5.3 second 40...
If it is true that Garrett is moving the Boys to a smaller, quicker line (I'm not sure that is true), then draft Adams in the 7th round, and sign Freeman as an UDRFA...

I think Mike Adams will be selected in the top 15. Watch out for Buffalo and Arizona.

Same thing I was thinking when I read it.
But you can weigh it against picking up a top level guard.

I'd love to draft Adams and move Free inside.
Two shutdown tackles
what's wrong with that?

Very impressive arm length by Cordy Glenn. He could even play RT in a pinch with that kind of wingspan. I'm thinking he could be a non-crazy Shawn Andrews.

That's a pretty apt comparison...

Fearless prediction: Adams will go before Riley in the top ten.

Free makes a ton of money. IF he can't start at OT he is getting cut, not sliding inside.

I guess I'm in the minority because I like this idea as well, although I would not simply hand Free the job at guard either. Bring in elite O-line talent, let the best men win, and let's give our underappreciated QB the clean pocket he has never had. This is the draft to continue building O-line and infuse talent into the defensive backfield. If OT is BPA in Rd 1, do it.

He's yet to even get drafted, he's far from shutdown. Let's not jump the gun. Plus there's nothing that says Free will definitely be able to play guard. Hes a little small and may lack the upper body strength to handle the big DT's. It really doesn't solve anything in my opinion. We have our 2 OT's for the next 4 or 5 years, now let's work on the interior of the line.

True, what I meant to say is two potential shut down tackles.

:laugh2: Sorry professor. The 14th pick is gonna cost you the same whether it is a T or G. May as well spend your money on the premium position. Free will cost you the same whether T or G. In the long and short run DeCastro, Martin, or Adams will likely be much better players than Free (who Houck said can play G).

Hudson Houck was did an interview with Norm on the ticket last week. I found it interesting that he mentioned that he thought Free could play Guard.

Now Mike Adams is a top 15 pick?
I'm really interested in seeing this draft because I want to see how the 35 guys all going in the top 15 (according to you people) are going to all fit. Should be some crazy new math I can learn!

I'm actually having a hard time finding the 15 guys for the top 15.
I counted maybe 6 or 7 sure things, but the rest are too close to call

I know, but I have heard definitive statements from people on here that "Player X will definitely go in the Top 15"--and I have heard that same thing for about 30 different guys.
