Cowboys coach Jason Garrett knows what he’s looking for at the Senior Bowl practices, and anywhere he scouts players or talks to them in person.
“In general, you want smart, tough football players who have a passion for playing,” he said Tuesday after watching the North squad practice at Ladd-Peebles Stadium. “That’s something you want from every guy, regardless of what their position is.”
Garrett had a reputation for being a smart player when he was a backup for the Cowboys and New York Giants. But the concept of “smart” is not absolute, he said. One size does not fit all.

They also must know when using a time out would be appropriate and inappropriate.

Because, God forbid, you use a timeout and a player is unable to perform his most basic function afterward as a result of that extra time.

Good jab placement, but I would hope you agree with the basic philosophy of looking for smarts and heart as part of the criteria for the players.

hopefully all the people putting Burflict in their mock drafts read this because this throws a player like him right out the door (thankfully).

Guys like Burfict piss me off. I saw early vids of him being a beast. Size, speed but no brains or heart. Dude, you could be playing football games on Sunday and get paid for it, but your too stupid to get out of your own way. I think the accolades went to his head and he didn't perform well this year. There are guys out there that would LOVE to be in your shoes and play hard, but they don't have the talent or physical make up this guy has.

I plan to automatically fail any mock with Burfict in it from here until the last weekend in April.
