With padded practices for the Senior Bowl completed, nearly all NFL types have left. The game is not until Saturday, but for pro scouts, the three padded practices carry the most weight. Below is a breakdown of the eight players who shined the most this week, in alphabetical order:
1. Mike Adams, OT, Ohio State, 6-7, 323, 5.10 40 time; projected late first-round, early second-round pick. Adams came to Mobile viewed as a likely third-round prospect, but after a strong week, we are confident that he will be a second-round pick and could even work his way into the bottom of the first round. He displayed good feet sliding out to protect the corner in pass protection and did an excellent job of using his long arms to get a fit on pass rushers. He showed good strength throughout the week and once he locked onto a man, he was able to tie him up and keep him out of the play. Numerous NFL scouts told SN that Adams is a better offensive tackle prospect than Riley Reiff.
2. Brandon Boykin, CB, Georgia, 5-9, 183, 4.35; projected late first-round, early second-round pick. It is widely accepted that Morris Claiborne and Dre Kirkpatrick will be the first two cornerbacks drafted, but the battle to be the third cornerback picked is up for grabs. After an excellent week in Mobile, Boykin has definitely let it be known that he needs to be in that discussion. He showed natural instincts covering receivers, rare foot quickness, loose hips and the speed to run with receivers all over the field. Best of all was that Boykin seemed to enjoy being physical with the big receivers and not only held his own, but was able to consistently keep his man from catching passes.

Is Jenkins really a 4.35 guy?
Reading a lot of senior day reports, the guy that I find interesting is Weeden. The age is a big negative, and I don't see how any team can grab him in the first. You'd have to have a team that needs a starter at the end of the first, maybe the Jets? I wouldn't even take him in the 2nd, and couldn't justify taking him over about 5 or 6 other QBs who have more upside. He'd be a great pick in the 3rd. Very interested in where he ends up going.

I just don't want to use a pick in the first 4 rounds on a guy who will be 30 next year.

Also from Russ....
Players who hurt themselves (in order of least impressive performances):
1. Kevin Zeitler, OL, Wisconsin, 6-3, 315, 5.40 (North Squad) Zeitler again spent time at both guard and center, but was a huge disappointment, particularly when playing in space. He struggled to stay over his feet as he was caught numerous times stopping his feet and reaching, which caused him to lose his balance and end up on the ground. He also had issues with some of the stronger DTs in team drills, as both Washington’s Alameda Ta’Amu and UConn’s Kendall Reyes were able to establish leverage against him and toss him off the point of attack.
2. Alfonzo Dennard, CB, Nebraska, 6-0, 203, 4.55 (North Squad) During the morning practice, Dennard continued to struggle to match up in man coverage and on several occasions gave up too much ground to Iowa WR Marvin McNutt, giving him easy catches. During 1-on-1s, he tended to lose his feet and at times fell in transition. Throughout the day, he did not show a proper pedal, which hurt his ability to turn and run with receivers in space. When jamming at the line, he has a violent punch, but too often had bad placement or missed, and Posey took advantage of this and ran by him downfield after a whiff.

IMO if we can't get
Melvin Ingram, DE/OLB, South Carolina, 6-2, 276, 4.6; projected Top 20 pick. Alabama’s Courtney Upshaw gets more publicity, but this week in Mobile, Ingram showed that he is the more explosive and athletic prospect. He has shocking explosiveness off the ball as an edge rusher from an outside linebacker alignment, and combined with his polished hand use and variety of pass rush moves, he made it pressuring the quarterback look easy. He also displayed the strength to be a force at the point of attack against blockers. He could be a fast-rising player this spring and could challenge to be a Top 10 pick.
then I take
7. Janoris Jenkins, CB, North Alabama, 5-10, 191, 4.35; projected late first-round, early second-round pick. The former Florida cornerback, who ended up at North Alabama after being dismissed by the Gators for his off-field behavior, shined all week. He displayed rare athleticism, especially foot quickness and explosiveness. He proved that if teams are comfortable with his character, he should be in the mix to be the third cornerback drafted. He did a great job of reading the quarterback from off coverage to close fast and break up passes. The only area in which he had issues was that he lacked ball awareness when his back was to the quarterback in downfield man coverage.
I think we can get a OG in round 2 or 3

Russ Lande's Day 1 on Ingram...
Melvin Ingram, DE, South Carolina, 6-2, 276, 4.75 (South). While he lacks explosiveness off the edge, Ingram is very aggressive on contact, largely due to his violent hand use, strength and power. He was quick to read and recognize his keys as a run defender during 9-on-7 and team periods. He also ran well for a man of his size, and he looked very comfortable playing off the ball in pass coverage.
Russ Lande's Day 3 on Ingram...
Melvin Ingram, DE/OLB, South Carolina, 6-2, 276, 4.6; projected Top 20 pick. So, somewhere between shocking explosiveness and no explosiveness.

Basically he did what most people did before Day 1, saw him on Youtube and read reports. In a lot of videos online, you don't see the burst. Before the practices I felt he was either not a quick twitch guy or extremely patient, it turns out he's just very patient because he looked pretty quick on the 1 on 1 drills.

Good catch. I've seen things like that happen in one writeup.

Ingram improved from a projected 4.75 forty to 4.6 in 2 days?
"(Mike) Adams came to Mobile viewed as a likely third-round prospect, but after a strong week, we are confident that he will be a second-round pick and could even work his way into the bottom of the first round."
I have not seen any projections of this player dropping to the 3rd round.
About Mike Adams:
He displayed good feet sliding out to protect the corner in pass protection and did an excellent job of using his long arms to get a fit on pass rushers.
His arms measured shorter than expected at 33.5".

Really? Boykin as the 3rd best CB?

This report seems more spot on to me. The guy did really well all week and seemed to play with some serious aggression.

Quinton Coples, DE, North Carolina, 6-6, 281, 4.75; projected Top 20 pick. Coples was viewed as the best 4-3 defensive end prospect in the country coming to Mobile, and he showed why all week. For a 280-plus pound defensive end, he displayed an uncommon burst off the ball and quick hands to defeat pass blocks. He also showed good hand use and great strength to be a dominant power rusher. He displayed versatility, producing when lining up outside as an end and inside when he slid over to tackle. SN came away from Mobile convinced that Coples is as physically talented as former teammate Robert Quinn, who was a first-round pick in 2011.
I disagree with the above on Coples. I didn't see the burst.

I thought Curry (Marshall) and Reyes (Uconn??) had solid weeks as well.

The similarities between janoris and Mike are uncanny.
No way I'm taking him though. Overconfident in his skills. Trainwreck potential

Yea but Jenkins is too much of a risk at 14 imo, especially when the best guard in the draft might be there. There are a lot of good corners in the first two rounds, so you have to grab DeCastro imo, and grab a corner in the 2nd. We can't afford to struggle on the offensive line again this year.

Ingram plays with the kind of fire and aggression the team needs....but sadly he won't make it past the Bills.

I hope Boykin goes #3 as a CB off the board and Jayron Hosley falls in our laps. Hosley is an athletic freak and has the skills to match.
