Loose change found under the Valley Ranch sofa cushions:
Injury update I: New Cowboys RG Marco Rivera claims he is recovering from his disc surgery and is already running on a treadmill (http://www.dallascowboys.com/news_800.cfm?id=F0E72390-DFEF-41BB-D78B55C7465DDA2C).
Injury update II: Mickey Spagnola of dallascowboys.com reports that rehabbing TE Dan Campbell has been running sprints (http://www.dallascowboys.com/news.cfm?id=DBAC48A6-D759-9160-6499530C96DBE16B) lately. (scroll down) This should lessen the urgency to find a blocking tight end, but don’t discount the Cowboys drafting one in the middle rounds. Parcells can never have enough of them. If you saw the Patriots last year, who shuffled four tight ends in and out of their lineup, you’ll have an idea of where the Cowboys would like to go.
Walter Signs: Restricted free agenct OL Tyson Walter signed his one year $656,000 offer from the team.

I can't see us drafting another TE. We have too many other pressing needs at this point.

I have to agree, I see what your talking about with a TE but with Witten and Campbel both bakc in the lineup I gotta think we will go with more pressing needs. I don't think we will be making many big Dynamic splashes on draft day but I do thin we will draft need.

Don't say that too loud or Charles will come back out here with his Man crush for Heath Miller.
i think we are pretty damn set at te.

I find it interesting that BP all but said we were going to take Cooley in the 3rd round. Cooley was one of 20 we brought in last year and he went 2 picks before us in the 3rd. He flat out said he originally wanted to run more 1 back/2-3 TE formations last year but draft and RA's injury prevented that. JJ said immediately after day 2 draft that drafting of Ryan "could be" an indication of the "type" of offense we want to run.
What does all this mean? Protection first, power running game, keep em off of Bledsoe, numerous short-intermediate range targets. A style of offense that compliments the type of D BP wants to play. Most importantly, put together an offense a young QB like Henson can grow and learn in without getting his bell rung and confidence shattered. Kinda like Ben R had in Pittsburgh this year where they ran the ball north of 50 times most games.
BP had Bavaro, Mowatt, and Cross on the same team on the Giants. He had Ben Coates, and Marv Cook on the Patriots. He had Fred Baxter, and Kyle Brady and then went out and drafted Becht in round one in 2001.
TE makes your OL, RB, QB, and WR's better. They help in run and pass.
Why not add to a group that's already strong and make it dominant? That's what BP has always done especially at RB, LB, and TE.
We're talking in the 2-4 range when we trade down. Most likely in 3-4 range.

Unless you are talking about another Brady, Kyle Brady played for the Jags in 1999 and 2000. I'm not really sure who else Parcells had at TE by that point. I know he only drafted two TEs in the previous 4 years (and those were both second day picks, bad ones at that).
Becht was the 4th first round pick for the Jets in 2000. I don't think he drafted TE because he felt it was a great need.. I think he did because he ran out of other positions to draft. Man I'd love to draft 4 guys in round one. More seriously though, it looks like there were pretty soft on Talent at TE after Brady left.
Also the Jets didn't have a lot of needs in 2000.

I didn't mean to sound like Brady, Baxter, and Becht were all on the same team. Brady and Baxter were, in 2001 he drafted Becht. Of course Becht was a need, unless you think BP just throws around 1st round picks willy nilly.

My mistake then.. I thought you were supporting the idea of drafting yet another early Tight End by suggesting that's what BP was doing with Becht having two other good TEs on the roster already.
I have no problem grabbing a TE in the second day, but I'd be dissapointed if he did in the first. Especially for a pass catching TE over a blocking TE.

3-5 range and I'd say 4 at the latest. Seems like the TE's that can actually move and have hands will be gone by 4. I'm thinking guys like Dreesen and Bergen.

Glad to hear someone mention Adam Bergen, Rush!
I am a Lehigh University alum, and have seen this guy play. He catches everything thrown to him. He is a solid blocker, and an extremely intelligent leader (he was a QB in HS). He was clearly a man among boys every time he entered the arena (although admittedly, the boys are actually toddlers in the Patriot League).
All that said, unless it is in the 6th round, I would really not like to see a draft pick expended on a TE, which seems to be the deepest position on our team.
I have a feeling that this kid will develop into something special, though.

I think drafting a TE isn't a bad idea. We can get great value out of them in the later rounds ... just don't use a day 1 pick on one. We can find mammoth blocking TE's on day 2.
We saw what happened to our running game early in the year when Campbell went down.

We need depth nearly everywhere...
Campbells injury was a big lose, as was J.Jones & Glenn.
But I don't see a TE being selected this year...
