Spears (6-3 5/8, 304), who did not run on LSU's first Pro Day because of a knee injury, ran his 40s in 5.10 and 5.10. He also ran the short shuttle in 4.48 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.75. He had a 31-inch vertical jump, but did not do the broad jump because he was still concerned about his knee. He also had 23 bench presses.

Kind of slow, although Darren Howard ran a 5.09 40 @ the 2000 combine and he has done pretty good as a pass rusher.

Not too good.

That's why I say he'll be a very good 3-4 DE but I'll pass on him as a 4-3 DE.

He will be there at 20 for sure now.

Yikes! I thought he would run much faster than that. He is comming off an injury though.

IMO spears will end up be one of the NFL's top DLs. throw out the 40 times on this guy. he's a football player.

I think Spears can be a very good 3-4 DE and maybe 4-3 DT but probably NOT 4-3 DE or 3-4 DT. Good player, great athleticism for his size, but not going to get 12 sacks a year.

If we stay in the 4-3, he's not the player we need

and think he's a good football player. I'd love for Dallas to take him late 1st after a trade down. If we got Spears in the 2nd, I'd be very happy.

Interesting that the people who don't want him would take him in the 2nd round. OK he probably won't last that long. With all the questions about guys like Spears and Merriman, does that mean we should just make the Howard deal so we don't have to gamble on a DE in the first round?

hedging one's bet is generally considered a conservative move.

i don't see howard and the huge salary he currently seeks as any kind of conservative action.

teams are built thru the draft. so let's get busy.

This might make Spears drop, but it's not exactly like the guy was being billed as a speed rusher. He is what he is, and he might be that in Dallas. I think there's a genuine interest there.

Spears equals a bigger Ellis, perfect as a 3-4 end.

I'm looking at him as a defensive tackle. His frame and skills remind me of John Henderson and Kevin Williams. I think by the time his frame fills out he'll weigh in the 320 range.

What's not to understand? I wouldn't buy a pair of jeans for $200, but at $10, I'll take two.

Considering he has the same agent as Parcells,i
would think Bill already knows what he can do.

Spears equals a bigger Ellis, perfect as a 3-4 end.He's a DT/DE Hybrid

Time not a concern. Suggs ran a 4.9 at 250. Howard was a 5.0 guy in 2000 and he's commanding a $35M Contract front load guaranteed - go figure.

I think Spears also makes a good 3-4 DE...Even a speed rushers isn't going to get sacks with clueless zimmy WUSS! We need Parcells to take over on D and we go 3-4...(Lets all HOPE)

Parcells released some coaches yet he did not release Zimmer. Parcells seems to have no problem with Zimmer as you seem to have.

Zimmer's in a "no-win" situation with a few of these guys.

If the defense sucks...it's Zimmer's fault. If the defense plays great, Parcells "took control" of the defense.

I know it will play out just as you said. All I can say is Parcells is the boss and if he felt Zimmer was not up to the task he would not be here period.

I agree with your assessement. Parcells made some changes and Zimmer wasn't one of them.

Maybe Parcells knows something the anti-Zimmer crowd doesn't?
