Jerry wants strong inside linbacker play(San Francisco comments). He said not so fast on Carter starting at inside linebacker. If Carter is not ready, we have a hugh hole in the middle. Luke Kuechly is supposed to be a Sean Lee clone. I would love to see two Sean Lee's in the middle of our defense for the next decade. Something to chew on.

He's a quality player.
But dropping a 1st, after spending two #2's the past two seasons on the same position doesn't excite me.
Especially with knowing how bad the secondary and offensive line is.

If they think Carter has a chance to start, then Kuechly's a waste of a pick. Especially considering the other gigantic problems at OL, CB, DL. That being said, I love the player and wouldn't be upset if we drafted him. But it would probably not be very smart on our part.

But what if we switch to a 4-3 ? Luke, Lee and Carter....

I like your thinking, but I'll have to go with Winicki on this one and trust that the Cowboys believe that Carter has the athleticism to handle ILB in the 3-4. Other options in free agency could be Stephen Tulloch, D'Qwell Jackson, Curtis Lofton or Dan Connor.
Jackson is the most likely coming out of Cleveland, but I don't think they are going to let him go, which is a shame because they are in a position where they could either have Kuechly or Burfict if they wanted.

naw i rather fill the spot in FA. We have 2 second rounders in back to back drafts at MLB. Why spend a first especially when all we need is someone to be atleast average.
If we pick a MLB i rather it be a 4th or later round draft pick.

yes, that is my pick for us. I'll take Luke and then next take Manti from ND

Whether or not we have other needs doesn't matter. If this guy is there at #14 it is a gift from god and you scoop him up. Our ILB play wasn't all that much better than our secondary play and this kid immediately starts and improves it. It also means Bradie and Brooking are gone which every Cowboys fan should rejoice about.

If he is looking for LB's like the 49ers have Luke does nothing for that. Athletic freaks like Bowman and Willis are on the opposite end of the Spectrum from Luke.

Bingo. We need to get bigger and stronger on our LB corps.. not smaller and weaker. Sean Lee is great, but to pair him up with another smaller, quicker LB isn't a good idea.
Dont'a Hightower, or a player like him, would be ideal.

Hightower is quietly becoming one of my dirty desires. I admit, like Jerry after watching that 49ers defense i have a desire for a different type of player at LB. Unfortunitly one of the best in this class also has a mental disability (Burfict)

Even if Carter does turn out to be the starter, that doesn't mean that ILB shouldn't be a priority this offseason. James and Brooking should both be gone, and unless they really like Orie Lemon, we're very thin at that position.
They arent going to draft him at 14.

This is why I like Keenan Robinson of Texas in the middle rounds. At 6'3" 240, he could add a little more weight and not lose his speed. He would provide quality depth at the very least and possibly challenge for more playing time in a year or two.

I never watched BC so I'm just going off of the prospect videos on Youtube. Impressed by Keuchley's efficiency. Hardly takes a wasted step and maneuvers through the traffic easily. Knows where the play's going before the the snap. Takes the right angle and he's like a missile. Very Sean Lee-like.
That said, he doesn't shy from contact, but he doesn't seem like much of a physical presence either. I'm seeing more of a drag-down tackler.
I can't dismiss our 1st going to ILB though. Rolling out the red carpet for Bruce Carter could backfire just as badly as rolling with Alan Ball at FS in 2010 and Phil Costa/Bill Nagy at OL in 2011.

I like that pick.
Personally I'm more for a vet like Dan Connor from Carolina because I don't trust a rookie to fill that roll.

I say get
Nigel Bradham/OLB/Florida State: Bradham was fast and athletic all game long, running down opponents from all directions of the field. He was terrific in pursuit and Bradham made several outstanding plays in open space. Bradham showed skill in pass defense and was on top of his game covering tight ends and running backs.
and move him Inside

You roll with Carter and Lee. If Carter is not ready then you will need to get a vet FA ILB. My guess would be a short contract for someone to fill in until Carter gets his mojo.

I told Hos after watching the kid play a few games that this kid is special he is by far the best defensive player I seen all year. He was everywhere.

I love me some Keenan Robinson, and he plays with a nasty streak too. He isn't afraid to hit.
I also love me some Emmanuel Acho.....he is always around the football. He is fast, athletic, and intelligent.
I would love to have both Horns players as LBs and ST players.

I also like Jerry Franklin of Arkansas.....and if he could stay healthy, Tyler Nielsen would make a fine LB....he has side, speed, and is very good in coverage.
