we can't afford this strategy, we need players who can contribute now.

I already felt Barron was going to run a pedestrian 40 and now he won't be able to do anything at the Combine. Pass.

would be my pick in the 2nd if this caused him to fall, but who knows.. yeah the above poster is right, we can't afford to wait on these guys to get healthy, Ware-Ratliff-Romo-Witten only have a few years left playing at a high level, gotta get guys who are ready to ball out on the day they arrive for ota's & rookie mini camp

boy that injury sounds like tons of fun

feel bad for him that he won't be able to do the combine or pro days and workouts.

such a big time in the life of these kids you never want to see something like this deprive them of it.

I do think it would go a long way to fixing this secondary if they went cb-safety the first 2 rounds.. Kirkpatrick-Barron would be nice, but I believe a team out there wont let that situation unfold and will snag him either late 1st or early 2nd

Welp, Jerry did say there would be new faces in the secondary next year. If Barron has a high enough grade and he is there in round 2 I could see it happening.

It was reported this morning by Joe Everett that the top safety in the 2012 NFL Draft, Mark Barron, has suffered a double sports hernia and will be out till July or August. That certainly isn’t good for his draft stock. Barron had previously been a mid to late first round pick but could see himself fall to the mid-second round area after this injury.

He’ll miss out on the Combine and Pro Days, both of which are really important to a players draft stock. He still has all his previous years of play to support him but teams will be looking for starters in the first round and Barron will miss most of training camp with his injury. He could still possibly start come game one, but he’ll still be behind most of the other players in terms of conditioning, among other things.

He's an in the box safety.

I wouldn't touch him before the 3rd round.

No way for Barron... Even without the double sports hernia.

Not good enough in coverage.

Damn, didn't know you could get a double sports till now.

Sucks for him, red flag that he could be out till August, last thing we would need is another high pick not contributing/lost in the new schemes for most of the year.

THISx1000.we just cannot do this anymore with high draft picks.

Sounds like the typical 3rd or 4th round pick for the Cowboys if you ask me. Injured player, rated higher.........book it. lol

This isn't a good safety class. Barron was the best of a bad lot.

I would like to see us draft somebody like Bacarri Rambo next year (shame he didn't declare this year).

Word. I would have loved to get his teammate too, Jarvis Jones.

Barron's coverage has supposedly improved this past season. He reminds me a bit of Kenny Phillips.

Wouldn't be a bad pick in the 3rd.

If he's there in the 2nd I would take him no doubt. Hernias are treatable and usually don't have long term affects. If he's 100% by August then its really not that big of a deal. Guys with ACL tears and such that won't be ready to play at the start of the season we want to avoid. But if we gave him a 1st round ground prior to this news and he's there in the 2nd then its a no brainer.

He'll fall to the 3rd, at least. He's already got coverage concerns and now he has no chance to address those criticisms with a good combine or pro day.

I think the Iloka kid from Bosie State will turn out to be what we all wanted Pat Watkins to be - a tall, athletic, PLAYMAKING safety in the NFL. If he's still there in the 3rd, I want this guy with a star on his helmet.

I was thinking the exact same thing.

We did it with Sean Lee in 2010.

We did it with Bruce Carter in 2011.

Do we do it again in 2012?

The original post says July/August. I'd take him in the 2nd and let him heal. He would be a tremendous boost to our seconday and an absolute steal. I could see us taking Dre in the 1st and Barron in the 2nd. We'd have 1/2 of the National Championship winning secondary.

Still recovering from my sports hernia surgery that took place on Jan 14th. I wasnt able to get out if bed for about a week and just now am able to walk without a limp.

It will be 2 more months til I'm back 100% and that's if I'm lucky. Some never completely recover. Hands down worst pain I've had. I've broken bones, herniated disc and even fractured my skull. None compared to this.

THIS....

and you may laugh, but I'm dead serious. If he's there in the 3rd round, the Cowboys would be stupid to pass on him. I'm not so sure they should pass on him in the 2nd round, but I'd understand ( depending on the scenario ).

The Cowboys could even give him until the 10th week of the season before making a decision on activating him or leaving him in the IR for the entire season.
