The Dallas Cowboys (http://espn.go.com/nfl/team/_/name/dal/dallas-cowboys) didn't see Laurent Robinson (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/10519/laurent-robinson) coming last summer, but thanks to Miles Austin (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/10147/miles-austin)'s hamstrings and the speed with which he and Tony Romo (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/5209/tony-romo) developed a red zone rapport, Robinson became an important part of Dallas' offense. Now, he's an unrestricted free agent, and the team faces a difficult decision on what to do about him.

In the third installment of their position-by-position look at the Cowboys, ESPNDallas.com tackles the wide receivers (http://espn.go.com/blog/dallas/cowboys/post/_/id/4690016/cowboys-position-series-wide-receivers-2). Bryan Broaddus acknowledges Robinson's contribution but "would not be surprised if the front office allows Robinson to walk."

I remember No. 3 receiver being a concern for the Cowboys last August in training camp, and I remember talking to Bryan about this issue. At the time, we agreed that it was a small concern, in part because there was always a chance they could find a decent No. 3 wideout on the street (as they did) if they didn't like their internal options, and in part because of tight end Jason Witten (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/4527/jason-witten)'s abilities as a receiver.

Witten this past season posted his lowest reception and yardage totals since 2006. I believe part of that was due to the emergence of Robinson, especially as a red zone option. I also think it had something to do with the Cowboys' offensive line struggles, which may have required Witten to spend more time as a pass-protector than a pass-catcher.

I agree. People love to throw the #3 WR issues thing is Robinson not only proved he could man that role he also showed that when Dez or Austin are not in the lineup he can man their roles as well. Looking around at some of the top offense they all have more than just 2 WR who can make plays.

I say pay him.He totally earned everything he gets here. With a team of underachievers he so stands out it isn't funny. If nothing else he brings that to the team and lord knows we need it.He just got the game this year.
The light came on and he is akeep er in my mind..

The question isn't about paying him. The question is about how much. This team has had a bad habit of paying guys too early only to have them not live up to their contracts afterwards. We can't hamstring moves on the rest of the team for a #3 WR if the price is too high.

I want to keep him and hope we can.

With how well he works with Tony I just don't see how you can let him walk. Of course that's unless someone comes along wanting to offer him some sort of stupid money then you just say thanks for the 1 season.
