As the Cowboys work to get their free agency ducks organized over the next five weeks, the most prominent decisions will involve Anthony Spencer and Laurent Robinson, two players whose contracts have run out.
But the biggest name and best player on the list of guys who are set to be undrafted free agents in a year is Jenkins, who will turn 27 next month.
As the Cowboys attempt to rework their secondary, with only Orlando Scandrick and Gerald Sensabaugh bound to long-term deals, how big a part of the team's future plans must Jenkins be, in a league that now requires at least three good cornerbacks?

I say wait and see. If he plays well this season then look to extend him, if not we can see what pans out in the draft.
I actually think he's worth keeping, just that injuries need to be considered before locking him up

Cart before the horse. That's an issue for a later date.

He's paving the way to understand the actions that Dallas does end up doing...and he is projecting into having to deal with a later issue of a new corner being added to the cart for overall cap affect from the cornerback/safety group. That makes it a current and now consideration as well. And will show metal in the coaching staff as how things unfold hencefourth...
Who was the last DB that Dallas locked up in a long term deal and still performed after? As bad as the secondary is I am not enamored with Jenkins.

jenkins breaks everytime he hits someone. Of Which he really tried to do this year for rob ryan, forgoing his olay ways of the past. But the guy misses to much time in games and total games at this point. We really need physical dbs with a physical attitude about them. Watching the giants wrs happily run thru our backfield made me think of woodson and rw38. Victor Cruz would have got broken in half on those crossing routes by woodson or williams. That is a element we rally miss these days. Prossman

Want pop, Pross...during the off season sign both CB Finnegan and FS Tyvon Branch. Then CB Minnifield in the second round.

A smack by my wife on my lips, doesn't go onto a richter scale for value.
I, as stated previously, care less on method of delivery as to message worked upon.
But I'm not refering to the acronym: KISS.:)
Or, somebody get Don Hoe off me! And decide if the Post Office allows a Union protected by both principals of anti-trust and collective bargaining, or just a make believe private organization.

They don't copy edit stuff that is only posted online...that's why we end up with this crap.

He did show up the second half of the season, as to fewer completions his way... but teams were too busy abusing Newman, Ball, and Walker in the mean time.

Jenkins was more physical than Newman and was better in coverage than Scandrick last year. He played well all season and that was with his arm in a sling the second half. He got dinged but he got back up and went back in and that is what matters.
He is a starter in this league and we would be foolish to let him go.

Would the signing of Finnegan, who ran a 4.3 and then signing Tyvon Branch, fast at a similar rate...and then pairing them with Gerald Sensabaugh and Mike Jenkins just about solve the majority of the secondary problem?
There should be ample cap space to handle that part of the picture, right?
The obvious third corner would then be Scandrick.

The Cowboys must remember 2010 in any dealings with Jenkins. He's exactly the type of player to let walk.

Drafting a player such as Minnifield around the second round would about cover that if it became a necessity, think?

They could even double up on corners, if the value is there.

the way to deal with jenkins is from a position of strength
sign a FA CB this year (Carr, Grimes, Thomas)
draft a CB in rounds 2 or 3
let jenkins play out this season
then approach jenkins agent about re-signing

After the suckers in the front office just payed Scandrick for doing nothing? Let Jenkins ball out again this year and approach him at the end of the season talking about re-signing, he'll gladly field a higher offer from another team and I wont blame him.

i wont blame him for taking more money either
it is not personal
i just dont think jenkins should be paid as a top CB so if someone is willing to do that, more power to him

I let Jenkins play out the year and deal with the Contract at that stage. I would much rather pay more if he goes out and has a big year than give him a contract now and be disappointed. I like Jenkins but I want to see him earn the contract extention

I definately think you have to wait and see with this coming season. They shouldn't sign him during the year or anything like that.
Now, in saying that, I do believe we're going to lose on the gamble and he's going to put up, by far, his best year as a pro because it's contract time. Meaning we'll have to pay a lot more later but I think it's worth that to make sure he's not going to have another year like 2010.
