Yeah LL Cool did a great job with the opening. Did anyone catch Victor Cruz and Mario Manningham sitting behind Adele?

Everyone on twitter kept pointing it out, but I still missed seeing them in the audience.
Guess it's not to meant to be. Those are choice seats, tho.

Yeah they are....I have a feeling they'll be showing Adele a lot more through the night because she's still nominated for like a gazillion more awards :laugh2:

They just intro'd an award. Mario Manningham clearly needed more rehearsal.
On a side note, can't wait to see Adele do her thing. Love her.

Best performances so far:
Kelly Clarkson duet w/the country artist. Can't think of his name.
Coldplay only.. not the Rihanna duet.

And LL licking his lips.. Standing O from me everytime. :)

Wanted to add - Dave Grohl gives one of the best Grammy speeches and they cut him off!!! No music, no nothing for Ryan Seacrest to come on stage. He's on TV enough. At least we could still hear most of the rest of his speech, but still. LONG LIVE ROCK IN ROLL!!
I hope artist's listen and just go back to the basics. It sounds better when it's real!! Especially the rockers -- a lot of my favorites went the computer route. Not only did I not like the albums, they couldn't pull it off live and I eventually lost interest.

Loved LL's opening to the show. Most of those artists were new to me...that Adele lady has some talent! Muted the Manoj lady's performance. Really loved the Whitney tribute by the Hudson chick. They mentioned Etta James at the top of the show as being gone, but failed to mention her during the proper segment, nor did they do any kind of tribute to Etta. Loved all of the living legends being there and performing throughout the night, even though way too many people on the twitter were being overly critical of them.

Yeah, I noticed they did not mention Etta during the goodbye segment. Thought that was rather rude of them. She was a legend who deserved much respect. They did do a tribute for her, though, in a song. Bonnie Raitt and Alicia Keys sang "Sunday Kind Of Love" in her honor.
We didn't mute Manoj's hideous performance, but we did turn it down pretty low. I have never heard of her before and hope I don't hear of her again. lol. If she has anything better than that, she really should have done it.
Love Adele, can't get enough of her. She is truly gifted. And such a sweet, open person. Bruno Mars did an excellent job in his opening number, as well, and of course, as always. Man, can he sing. I really liked Chris Brown's performance with Deadmau5. I love techno, and that was awesome!
And I was blown away by Jennifer's moving tribute to Whitney. As much as that girl has been through, to maintain her level of strength should serve as a lightsource to those of us who are struggling with our own tragedies. She has guts and she is so full of class, it is almost painful to watch her standing so tall through it all. What an inspiration she is.
I know it's not allowed, but man would I have loved for LL to bust out with a little treat for us old LL fans. He did a great job hosting the show.

Manoj. What that the girl with the terrible rap like performance?
I was playing BF3 with headphones on. I had to stop and tell my wife to turn that **** it was so god awful. That is pretty bad when you've got a war video game with gun shots and loud explosions in your ear and you still have to mute a TV because the sound coming out of it is so hideous.

Yes, Sam. That would be the one. Terrible singing, terrible dancing, terrible rapping, even terrible squealing (yes, she squealed like a stuck pig, something about "mommy no" or something). It was awful. It was like a horrible nightmare of itself! She was acting like she was getting exorcized or something. The truth is, I think she really needs to be! She is either a really good actress, or she has terrible mental problems.:laugh2:
Maybe she does have better material, and just played it up a bit too much for the Big Show last night. In fairness to her, I am gonna go check her out on youtube before I judge her entirely. But even if everything else is great, I stand by my view of her from last night. It sucked.

Nicki Minaj's performance was garbage. I turned the channel on that, too.
J-Hud's performance could've been better. They could've allowed her to sing Whitney's whole song or just do a montage of Whitney's grammy moments.
They also forgot Don Cornelius and Vesta in the memorium segment.

Jennifer Hudson is a great singer, but she doesn't have the range for "I Will Always Love You". She was an octave too low. It just didn't sound right, but then there aren't too many people that can sing in three octaves like Whitney could.

She was also torn up and had trouble singing at all in certain spots. She was on the verge of break down through the whole song. Whitney was her idol. It was very sad. She probably would have nailed it, had the situation been different. She probably couldn't have sang it like Whitney, but she would have brought her own talent into it and it would have been great. I actually thought it was great anyway. I think the touching element of it is why I loved it so much.

Oh she absolutely has the range for it. But since I'd already heard she broke down during rehearsals, I knew there might be a chance she might break down or wouldn't be able to hit the notes.
She really did sing fine. It was just that it was so short that I was bothered by.

I'm really glad she made it through the whole song. For a minute it looked like she wouldn't be able to. I was pulling for her. She is just so strong. I couldn't have done it to save my life.
Hadn't really heard Adele much before tonight (except in passing, on the radio or whatever). She definitely seems to deserve all the awards she was given, that was an amazing performance.

That was her first performance since having vocal cord surgery a few months back. Her voice is still not 100%, but it is so powerful you could still hardly tell that. Check out her videos and live performances on youtube. She is a fantastic singer. The reason her album is named Adele21, is because she was 21 yrs old when she recorded it. Her other album is Adele19. She was 19 when she did that one. You would never know by listening to her how young she is.

Here's one for ya, Temo. She is a world class act. No corny dance stunts or trashy lingerie outfits, just a woman in a real dress with her voice. I love what the man said at the end of the video. She is a throwback artist.

Let's not forget that the Grammy folks had less than a day to deal with Whitney Houston's death. The show was basically all arranged, timed and produced prior to losing one of their own.
I was impressed that Jennifer Hudson held it together as well as she did. The tributes were, IMHO, great, particularly Alicia Keyes and Bonnie Raitt. They had more time to prepare and it showed.
It was the best Grammy show I've seen for a a while. Bruno Mars, Adele, and Taylor Swift were highlights for me. Low moments include Nicki Manaj and Chris Brown, probabaly because they represent genre's that I don't listen to. When I watched Bruno Mars, I thought I'd seen James Brown reincarnated. My wife has all of Adles's stuff, so she was an obvious favourite in our house.
BTW, Don Cornelius was acknowledged and in a very positive way. The in memorium segment moved pretty fast. It was easy to miss people. All in all, a pretty good show.

I'm aware of that. The show went four hours.. Allowing Jen to sing a whole 3 mins wasn't gonna throw it off too much.

Personally, I thought it was one of the more weaker Grammys. I didn't care much for Chris Brown's performance, tho I liked the song. I think he's a better singer than he puts on for these type of shows. Plus his performance of the same song on MTV's show was waaaaay better.
I don't like Bruno Mars, at all. His voice annoys me. My sister calls me a hater, but he sucks to me. I'm not a Taylor Swift fan. She has a nice voice, but I don't always like her music.
I liked Katy Perry somewhat.

All in all, a pretty good show.Don Cornelius was an afterthought and was only acknowledged because LL was the host and reminded them. Glad he was acknowledged, but he was not included in the memorium. And Vesta got no love and I think it's a travesty for someone who was a pretty significant R & B artist in the 80s.

I won tickets to see the Foo Fighters perform in the tent outside the Grammys. They rocked it. Very fan friendly. Came out early and played a few songs before their scheduled appearances.
While we were waiting around for the performances they had the show going on TVs around the tent. I thought LL nailed it with his tribute and prayer for Whitney. Simple and classy.
I felt bad for the Beach Boys and all who were involved with that performance. Sad to see such vacant stares...
Am I the only one who as surprised to hear Adele with an English accent? I thought for sure she was a good ol' southern girl.

I'm not a big fan of Chris Brown, mostly due to his off stage issues. I thought both of his performances were pretty dull and lifeless.
I had not heard much if any Bruno Mars before, but that kid knows how to put on a show. I was riveted.
I didn't care much for Taylor Swift's "aw shucks, is these fancy people appluadin' little old me?" routine after her song...

I quit being interested in the grammies when they started the heavy metal category and gave the first heavy metal grammy to....Jethro Tull.
I like Jethro Tull but giving the band the heavy metal grammy was a travesty IMO.
Since then I said screw it because it became clear that the only thing the grammies have a clue about is radio friendly music and have no clue about other stuff.
Yea, but then they try giving an award to a band like Arcade Fire and everyone is upset. You can't win with music awards because tastes diverge so much.
I'm a big movie buff and I feel that movies (and TV dramas) are much better captured in terms of rating artistic merit than any other medium. And as such I think the Oscars are petty damn good, compared to other award shows.

The Grammy was for Hard Rock / Heavy Metal so while Tull should have been eligible for it, Crest of a Knave isn't half the album ...And Justice For All was.
Entertainment Weekly named that Grammy one of the 10 biggest upsets in Grammy history (http://www.ew.com/ew/gallery/0,,20010795_20010076,00.html). ...and Justice for All was also ranked 12th on the greatest guitar albums of all time (http://rateyourmusic.com/lists/list_view?list_id=66329&show=25&start=75) and IGN has it ranked as the #9 of greatest Heavy Metal albums of all time (http://music.ign.com/articles/755/755929p5.html).

Tull got that award not for Crest of a Knave but for thier body of work and the general lack of attention they got before hitting the mainstream with Aqualung.
Go back and give This Was, Stand Up and Benefit a listen. Heavy Metal before heavy metal existed.
Ranking music/musicians is a fools game. I've never bought music because it has "grammy award winning" or "ranked xth best by..." on the label.
