He fired Bruce Arians because he wants to return to Steelers roots and run the football.
Then he hired Todd Haley, a WR and passing guru guy to be OC. Yeah, I know, Tomlin hired him.
Rashard Mendenhall, his workhorse RB, may miss the entire 2012 season with an ACL tear. Why do you pick that moment in time to return to your running the football roots?

He's a football guy, he knows what he's doing. They're the class organization of the NFL.

As much as you want to drive your point home about how the Cowboys are run no differently than any other organization your point is falling on deaf ears. I still see numerous posters blaming Jerry for everything that is done poorly by the organization.

Unless they intend to grab a RB in round 1, I don't see the sense of this. He is their horse.

I have to admit, I was getting the feeling a few weeks ago that the Steelers are due for an "off year". Perhaps they have peaked short term and need to re-load. They are in that part of the cycle.
Now, that could be because I REALLY dislike that franchise and I'm simply hoping for the worst with them, but when you look at that team, they do have cap issues, they have some players who are on the brink of retirement (Ward, their NT, Farrior, etc.). Plus, their lead RB could miss the season, as has been already mentioned.
Maybe 2012 is a good year to play them relative to the past few years? I'm not saying it's an easy game. By no means. But that they may be on a down cycle short-term as they need to reload some of their top talent.
I just think we have a better shot in 2012 to beat them than we would have had the past couple of years.

Here are my personal observations from this season watching the Steelers from the my DTV Sunday Mix:
The Steelers were not very good this year on offense period. They had some injuries to their line but so does everyone else so I don't count that as an excuse. They could not run the ball worth a damn and their pass offense didn't really get going until the later part of the season (after Antonio Brown proved to be a reliable guy) The defense didn't play all that well early on either but you could tell it wasn't the same "Steel Curtain" from before. The defensive stats are misleading but they also played the AFC South and NFC West. The only South team they lost to was HOU and they only managed to score 10 pts against them. All the other South teams were awful this last season and had no QB so the defense just stacked the box and ran zone blitz after zone blitz. They couldn't beat the Ravens at all this year who were the only contenders in their division. If anything you can use this season as evidence as to "how much a good defense helps out the offense" argument.
Mendenhall's stats are also a little misleading because he only broke 100 yds rushing 2 times the entire season yet he scored 9 tds which was mostly short yardage. He only hit 20+ touches one game the entire season also and Bruce Arians had a series rotation going on with him and Isaac Redman.
The Steelers are still in good shape as far as RB goes. They have Redman, Moore, and Dwyer. Dwyer stepped in as starter when Mendenhall and Redman went down and cracked a 100 yds against Tennessee.
IMO Rooney is trying to get back to running the football because they tried too many times to jump on Big Ben's shoulders to a victory only to be dropped short of the goal.

RBs have become pretty cheap now. They are looked on as disposable, with a 4-6 year effective lifespan. The Steelers could easily load up on that style of running back in the draft with lower picks.
Mendenhall may be at the falloff point anyway.

Every Steeler fan I know is more than happy to start Redman in 2012. They could care less about Mendenhall and many are still bitter about his fumble in the SB against GB. Redman, backed up by Dwyer and then upgrade Mewelde Moore with a quicker, pass catching RB...that's what I'm hearing on many Steeler fan agendas. Oh, and you'll love this, they want a true fullback. Don't we all.
The Haley hiring is interesting. I want to see how Ben takes Haley's actions.

I did state that they have three other capable backs that can tote the rock besides Mendenhall. They can always use their first pick on a RB too to fill the void.
I get the impression from the amount of touches and the way Mendenhall was played (every other series) that the Steelers weren't too happy with him. Redman can be that guy and was a little bit more productive than Mendenhall.

Well, they do have 2x as many Super Bowls wins as the Cowboys do playoff wins in the same time period. They also have more Super Bowl wins than any other team in NFL history so.....they do a pretty good job.
However, I think they are probably due for a down year. They were over the cap this offseason and are aging.

yeah, leave it to fans of the organization that has done nothing in the last 16 years to laugh at moves of the organization that has won 2 SBs in the last 5 years
makes perfect sense

Wow the way some people take any topics about anyone that isn't slurping their organization, and how it's run, so personally is just so sad.

I can't stand the Stealers, but I agree with what they did.
Like I tell my wife. If you are going to do something, do it. Don't stand around twiddling your thumbs.
As for Todd Haley. In 2010, his KC Chiefs lead the league in rushing (http://www.nfl.com/stats/team?seasonId=2010&seasonType=REG&Submit=Go). That is exactly what the Stealers want to do.
