Looks like two more DBs off the market, potentially.

Grimes and Branch won't be the only DB to get tagged. 49ers plan to tag S Dashon Goldson and Titans likely to tag CB Courtland Finnegan

Well there ya go. Looks like there is not going to be quite the market that was thought.

This makes getting Carr even more important, IMO.

i think the chiefs expected something like this and they signed stanford routt

now they can deal with carr from a position of strength

now, we are left with carr or bust and this will drive up his price

This was always going to happen, and I'm sure every NFL team knew it. Good, young players don't often make it all the way to FA. It's just the fans who like to tease themselves with the idea that premium players at positions of need are going to be there for the taking if we really want them.

Makes you wonder why the Chiefs didn't just tag Carr. Isn't he the younger and better player than Routt?

Honestly, I would have used the tag rather than signing Routt. I'm not sure what their thinking was there, unless Carr just is asking for the moon and they didn't think a deal was possible.

Obviously, there are situations every year when very talented young players do make it to FA, but those are the exceptions. Most teams are going to find ways to keep their young talent if it's at all possible.

what is the franchise tag for CBs? i bet it would be high so that likely factored in the decision

I'm sure it is. I don't know the number, either.

They must have liked Routt a fair amount, though. Carr's a good, young player to just let walk.

They want to tag Duane Bowe. I think they are going to make a run at Manning too. It makes sense because Castle is not a 5 year answer at quarterback either. Manning also fixes bad/average tackles since that is about all he has had.
