View Full Version : Who wins this race?

Imagine you have Bob Hayes, Deion Sanders, Hershel Walker, and Tony Dorsett lining up for a 100 yd dash in their prime. I pondered this recently whilst watching these great, nostalgic videos posted in the last few days. The wonder has actually induced insomnia.

Maybe this has been done here before but I couldn't locate a similar thread. So who wins?

I say Bob Hayes by a quark over TD.

Bob Hayes was one of the fastest humans ever.

40 Sanders might win. 100?

I say Bob Hayes by a quark over TD.Deion at 50, Hershel at 60, TD at 80 and Bob at 100, and Drew Bledsoe 15 minutes later.

They lining up in track shorts or in pads on a football field? On a football field, with pads on, Deion wins every time IMO. Prime Time was the fastest human I've ever seen in a football uniform, and when he was at his best it wasn't close.

Rocky

I could make an argument for any of these guys. Hershel was much faster than many ppl think and certainly swifter than he looked. Dorsett would be the most graceful. Primetime was always said to be as fast as he needed to be...

2. Sanders

3. Walker

4. Dorsett

Honorable Mention to Willie Blade, who went into cardiac arrest after the first 30 yards.

Just pure speed. They don't wear pads in this scenario.

If they're wearing pads I'd like to throw Bo Jackson into that race, with his original hip of course.

Hayes, Deion, Walker, Dorsett would be my guess. With probably 2 - 3 steps seperating them all.

There were times when he couldn't catch guys on the football field, because they started out with too big a lead, and I don't remember him giving up the chase or pulling up with any phantom injuries.

I ran track nationally -

Hayes All World - we can move on to who finishes second

Sanders was frail, his speed was crazy in the 40. What he had was all worrld QUIKNESS! He would not stand up in a 100 yard race as well.

Walker was a borderline 100 World class guy. Not as quick but when he got going would gun down Deion - JMO

TD - A great RB with great moves - Don't think he could hang on the track with those guys.

i couldnt beign to imagine whod win..but i want to put bets on Herschel could have carried them down the track..maybe not the fastest but i seen that guy carry players holding on to dear life on him and after a pile up theyd bring him down.

you guys need to remember... Hayes and Tony never had the benefit of "electronic" times...

I can't give you a definitive answer... but judging by "straight times" I go:

Hayes
Dorsett
Sanders
Walker

Going by "football speed"... I go:
Hayes
Sanders
Dorsett
Walker

and all so close it would take sliding a piece of paper between them...

Bob Hayes would so blow away that field its not funny! Walker had 100 track experience and was solid and would be solid second.

Deion and Dorsett would fade -

and that's why we have message boards... you say tomato... I say well... tomato...

Doesn't work here now does it...

They all were world class athletes with world class speed...

Given the list... I would hate to see Walker coming at me more than the others... ;)

HAve to go with Hayes. I watched him run, on film, when he was running track and it seemed so effortless for him and he was blowing folks away.

Yeah, those are some of the greatest athletes I've ever seen. I hate them ;) It's not fair that I wasn't given any more than a spec of ability but a lot of desire. I think it's one of those cosmic jokes that a lot of folks here can probably relate to.

As for the original question, I would imagine that Bullet Bob would finish first, with Prime Time chasing close.

Hayes, Sanders, Walker, Dorsett.

Put them in full pads and hand them a football and give me Dorsett. We already KNOW Dorsett can go 99, 1 more yard wouldn't be a prob:)

All of them are fast as can be.

Hayes has the best validated times.

What happens if we put Randall Williams in that mix. hes pretty fast from what I hear. How would he rank among the big guys listed in the OP post. i still think Hayes would take it included over williams.

Considering the size of each man, it is amazing that we are even mentioning Herschel Walker in this conversation.

He was incredible, I have loved Herschel from the first time I ever saw him, ... which was about a 75 yard TD run as a freshman at Georgia.

He hit the hole off RG, ran OVER a linebacker, and broke to the outside and outran 3 DB's (who had the angle on him), for the TD.

He may be my favorite Cowboy.

JackMagist

It would be Hayes by as far as he wanted it to be. No one knows how fast he could actually run as exibited by his anchor leg in the relay (sorry I forget the race distance) at the olympics. He made up the ground lost by his teammates, came from behind to beat everyone and ran the fastest leg ever in that race.

second would be close with those other three guys, they could all fly but I think it would be:

Hayes (no doubt)
Walker
Sanders
Dorsett

I wouldn't want to put too much money on who would get second but I'd bet the farm on Hayes.
