The Washington Post reported Wednesday that the Redskins would make an “aggressive effort” to sign free agent quarterback Peyton Manning. The feeling would have to be mutual for Manning to actually become a Redskin, of course.

According to Chris Russell of ESPN 980 Washington, it isn’t.

Russell appeared on SportsCenter Thursday and, citing multiple sources, reported that Manning doesn’t want to play in the nation’s capital and has already informed the team.

“A couple of different sources inside the organization have told me that Manning’s camp made it pretty clear to Redskins officials he doesn’t want to come here,” said Russell. “… There’s lots of reasons for that. His brother Eli, the colder weather, the whole situation down in Miami and so on and so forth. But unless that changes — and I’m taking my sources at their word — I don’t think Manning’s coming here to D.C.”

This is the first formal report that Manning doesn’t want to play for the Skins, though that reality has been commonly speculated for the past several weeks.

Russell, who hosts a popular radio show in D.C., believes the Washington fan base would prefer Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III over Manning, anyway. If Russell’s report is accurate, the fans stands a much better chance to get their wish.

I don't think Shanny and Peyton would get along at all. Peyton's not a good fit in that offense, and Shanny is a huge control freak who isn't just going to hand over the reigns to his QB.

I hope the Skins don't get RGIII either.

I guess it will be between them at the Browns for the number 2 pick, esp if Miami lands Manning.

My sources, say it's a toss up between Wash and Mia. Personally I would love to play my brother twice a year instead of once every 4 years... Thats just me though.

The Redskins getting Tannehill scares me more than RG3.

I think he could be. I don't sweat running QBs once teams figure them out. The hype surrounding RG3 has gotten way out of control, IMO.

Why do I have the feeling Manning camp consisted of Archie and Eli? :laugh2:

The Washington Post reports the Redskins began the "early stages" of their pitch to free agent Peyton Manning on Thursday morning.
Despite a report from ESPN 980 Washington that Manning doesn't want to play for the Redskins, the team is "determined to make a strong effort" to sign the quarterback. Sources also tell the Post that Manning's contract was structured to give him the advantage of negotiating a new deal before quarterback-needy teams find other solutions in free agency. Expect a signing by early next week, as FOX Sports' Jay Glazer points out, interested teams want Manning's help in recruiting free agents.

1. Former division rival. I hate all division rivals.
2. I live in AZ so I have to see a lot of the their games despite the fact they are not the favorite team in this state by a huge margin. In fact they are probably 4th favorite statewide.
3. I don't respect the Bidwell family and how they do business.

Dooms, that was one of his best games. Sort of a breakout game for him.

He was a tackling machine, 2 ints, 1 for a TD. Really looked great that game.

I have watched the replays of that game on youtube countless times. Worst bit was Dez's injury.

So are they just going to toss the clipboard to Kolb? I know that Kolb is no Manning by a long shot but geez, Manning to the Cards is totally different than when the Cards landed Warner. Manning's long term health is certainly no guarantee.

Please I hope they break the bank for Manning. But it doesn't look likely

Wow, Werder -- who has connections in Denver from all his years there -- is on 103.3 and just said the Broncos would be one of the prime suitors for Manning. Which I guess makes sense, but he says they'd be willing to suffer the massive PR backlash from benching Tebow.

They would then have one of the greatest offensive weapons between the 20s and then hand the ball over to Tebow once in the red-zone. Booyah... Chaaaampionship Broncos.

I read something on PFT yesterday about Denver going after Peyton. It makes sense. They have a legit QB and they can actually groom Tebow instead of running a gimmicky offense.

Edit: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/03/07/buzz-builds-that-broncos-will-make-a-run-at-manning/

Mike Klis of the Denver Post has reported that the Broncos will explore (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/03/07/report-broncos-will-inquire-about-peyton-manning/) the possibility of signing quarterback Peyton Manning (http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/1493/peyton-manning).
There’s a buzz in league circles much stronger than that.

One league source told PFT in response to the Klis report that there’s a belief the Broncos quietly have positioned themselves to make a significant push to land Manning.

RG3 will either be All World or All Bust. I'm on the all world side but I wouldn't bet a nickel either way. Some scouts say Griffin is no QB at all while others say he walks on water. Ryan has a good chance of being a good QB IMO.

That running QB completed 70% of his passes... that is dangerous... he is a polished passer who just happens to have some wheels...

As much as I like Tebow, and hope he does well just to stick it to all the people who hate him, would there really be all that much of a PR backlash if the guy he's getting benched for is Peyton Manning?

I mean we're not talking about benching him for Kerry Collins or Rex Grossman or Seneca Wallace or something like that.

We're talking about him being benched because the Broncos were able to bring in one of the best QBs to ever play the game.

I just don't see that being all that huge a PR nightmare.
