Cowboys need to send a message about underachieving veteran players

Terence Newman (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/4463/terence-newman) is the one player most Dallas Cowboys (http://espn.go.com/nfl/team/_/name/dal/dallas-cowboys) fans want to see gone. Last summer, during the hurried free-agency period, the Cowboys failed to sign Nnamdi Asomugha (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/4489/nnamdi-asomugha) as a possible replacement, though team officials, specifically Jerry Jones, say Newman would have stayed.
After the 2011 season -- when Newman led the team with four pass interference penalties, allowed 329 yards-after-catch and had 77 opposing quarterback targets -- it might finally be time for the Cowboys to let him go.
On the field, Newman played well early and lost confidence as the season progressed. He played more snaps than any corner on the team, 829, allowed the fifth most YAC in the NFL and was tied for fifth in pass interference calls. Asomugha, by the way, was flagged three times for PIs.

Newman should be done in Dallas, but it's irritating to nOte he ended up with the most snaps at CB on the team. He clearly wore down late in the season, and not because of a lack of confidence.
This quote, though, was a quote from the head coach that bears repeating:
"I think it's very difficult for people who don't know the calls and don't know what the specific coverages are and what the responsibilities are to say, 'Oh, he got beat because he was the closest to the guy running for a touchdown,'" Jason Garrett said without specifically talking about Stats or any other service that rates players. "I don't think that's a good way to evaluate it."
Is there an echo in here, or what?

Yeah, that echo would be those few still quacking:
"Newman isn't thaaaat bad....thaaat bad...thaat bad..."

My problem with Newman wasn't just that he appeared to get beat alot. It was how he seemingly lost his speed and acceleration overnight. That was more concerning than anything else IMO.

Given that you've consistently misunderstood almost every argument on the topic, it comes as no shock to anyone that you misunderstood the point of this one.
But, by all means, keep propping up the strawman; maybe somebody will swing.

Misunderstood what?
That you thought Newman was actually better than he was and argued vehemently with others about it? That you tried to blame Newman's shortcomings on everyone other than Newman himself? That you tried to switch gears ("oh, yes yes yes, Newman does have to go now...") once it became blatantly obvious that Newman was toast as an NFL cornerback?
No, I got you down pat.

I can't really see a scenario where he WOULDN'T be gone..I think the team is just waiting till June 1st to get max cap room from the cut

Yes, Calvin Watkins, because all great sports organizations place "sending a message to irked fans" up there with all of their other top goals.
What a joke.

They don't have to wait - they can waive him early with a June 1 designation.
I think they're waiting to see what they get in FA and the draft.

Oh, I thought we had to wait till then.....but you're probably right about seeing what else is available

He dropped off a cliff at the end of the year, for sure.

realtick, I sincerely doubt it. The list of things you have down pat is pretty short, and it doesn't include logical arguments.
I'm not going to defend arguments I didn't make just because you didn't understand what was going on the first time. That doesn't mean I'm going to let you misrepresent what was said, either. Either pull up the specific quotes and link to the context, or pipe down. I'm happy to defend every good argument I made on the topic, and to admit I'm wrong if and where I was.

I'd imagine that if we were able to land Carr or another quality CB in FA Newman would be released as a June cut asap.

I searched the archives looking for good arguments you made on the topic.
Didn't find anything.
I guess that's that.
We'll just have to agree to disagree that T-New isn't "thaaaaaat bad."
I guess I'll "never know what we had (in Newman) until he's gone," but I'm looking forward to finding out.

You searched and found nothing you could use to make an argument with, and then fell back on an intellectually lazy dodge. Got it. And I was expecting so much more from you, realtick.
Just kidding. Anyway, I think we can all agree that it's very difficult for people who don't know the calls and don't know what the specific coverages are and what the responsibilities are to say, 'Oh, he got beat because he was the closest to the guy running for a touchdown,' can't we?
