It's more humorous than true but I am really high on this guy. This was my guy before he was mocked to the cowboys. What are your thoughts?

I like much of the board love the guy, but the two wild cards are Mario Williams and Carl Nicks. If Williams come to Dallas very good chance for DeCastro. If Nicks comes, not as much. I think Nicks ends up in Washington FWIW.

I have to say I don't think neither will be in Dallas next year. We have too many holes and not enough cap space. I'm not even sure how we would use Mario in the 3-4. We would probably use the 4-3 and use Lee, Carter, and Spencer as the linebackers. Then we use Ratliff and Lissemore as the DTs, Ratliff would cause havoc in a 4-3. If only this could happen.

Yes, we are going to address defense in FA. DeCastro is the Tyron Smith of this draft. As much as I hated taking a right tackle in the first last year, my same gut feeling is not to take a guard this year. But it is a hole that needs filling and this guy will be the answer.
We don't have to sign Nicks if we draft him, and that allows us to go after Mario and Carr, with Carr being the priority. If we don't get Mario, we go after a center in FA and the use the rest of the draft on depth.

I've been leading the DeCastro bandwagon all off-season and still would like him on the team. However, Cordy Glenn is going to be a good OG as well.
Funny, I think DeCastro fits the mold of the new type of prototype OL that the Cowboys like, while Glenn looks like a the kind of guy the Cowboys would have loved 4-6 years ago.

exactly. And Red Balls experience -very recent experience- with LARGE guards would not bode well for Glenn or Nicks.
I heard that Nicks only fault is he likes to eat too much. But that is minor and you can write weight levels into a contract.
I much prefer my guards around 315. agile mobile and hostile.

At least you're not as hardcore a DeCastro fan as some on here.

yes, Nicks want to be the highest paid OG ever in the NFL.
Williams will get big money.
So if I had to pick I will then turn to the draft to help me pick.
The chances of drafting a day one pass rusher at 14 that will make a big impact is low. Drafting a OG in the mid 1st is rare and has a good chance at being a great player. I always like to play the odds. The odds of drafting a pass rushing bust or average NFL player at 14 is pretty good, odds of drafting a OG bust is very slim at 14. If a OG is rated as a mid 1st round player then that player is most likely a can't miss.
So if I had to choose between Nicks and Williams, I pick Williams and draft DeCastro.

I prefer my guards at 330lbs + with athletic ability and a really bad attitude , but DeCastro is close enough .

the selling point for FA has always been that you are getting a proven product.

I don't know if I'd like the chrome sucked off of my hitch. A nice polish would suffice.

But then you could say the same thing about Carl Nicks. So it's odd to read how Nicks must come to Dallas but Glenn doesn't fit here.

Not really.
There hasn't been any substantial link between Nicks and Cowboys other than just fan and media speculation.
Unless you have some info you wanna share.

I'm talking about reading fan takes over the last couple of months. I've seen people hoping for Nicks while dismissing a guy like Glenn as a bad fit.
If Glenn doesn't fit, Nicks doesn't fit.
But I think any quality player will fit.
