Cowboys' receiver: Peyton Manning is 'a God,' but he might not be best fit

Cowboys wide receiver Jesse Holley (http://topics.dallasnews.com/topic/Jesse_Holley) joined Ben & Skin on KESN-FM this week. Here are some highlights:
On Peyton Manning (http://topics.dallasnews.com/topic/Peyton_Manning) possibly joining the Cowboys:
“With the fans, everybody wants to be a part of the story. Everybody wants that. When you look at quarterbacks in the modern day of our sport, Peyton Manning is a God when it comes to quarterbacks so it’s only right that you have to look. I’m kind of sure Peyton Manning won’t be a Cowboy. We have a very very good quarterback in Tony Romo (http://topics.dallasnews.com/topic/Tony_Romo) here in Dallas, who is still young, who has a lot of football left, who is a franchise quarterback, and who will be here for years to come. Again, Peyton Manning is the God of football when it comes to the quarterback position, but we have a very good quarterback. Tony is a very good quarterback. We are very happy with him. I’m pretty sure the organization is happy with him. You have to give Peyton a look. It’s protocol. If you’re an owner, you have to do it. The look to me will be very quick. Tony is our guy. This is who we started with and this is who we’ll finish with. Here in Dallas, we’re led by Tony Romo.”

And

"On Tony Romo being a leader:

“You see what Peyton Manning does every Sunday. You the way he goes about his business, and that’s the Peyton Manning way. That’s the way he works. That’s the way he orchestrates his band, but that’s not the way Tony Romo works. We understand how Tony works, and Tony does a great job at being a leader. He knows where things are supposed to be. He knows where guys are supposed to go. Yes, he might not be the most boisterous guy when it comes to shouting and yelling, but just like Peyton, he can point out the Mike linebacker. Just like Peyton, he can make an audible at the line of scrimmage. Just like Peyton, he can change the play in the huddle. Just like Peyton, he can make the throw. And just like Peyton, he can win games. Put the film on, and you’ll watch Tony out there pointing, moving guys around, putting guys in places, and making audibles. Peyton may have had more control of that offense, and our structure is a little bit different, which may not fit Peyton Manning here in Dallas. Tony is the leader of our team, and we understand him, and it works well for us. Just because it may not look like the way Peyton Manning does it, or Tom Brady does it, or Eli (Manning) does it, or Aaron (Rodgers) does it, it works well for us.”

I really like Holley. I hope he finds his way back onto our 53 this season.

Holley is a guy who has really grown on me. He worked his way on to the team by doing a bunch of little things, and when called upon, he produced.

Too bad Holley won't be a Cowboy next year.

I don't see why he doesn't have a chance to make it as the #5 receiver. He does special teams and came up big for us a couple times. Not saying he will make it but he should have just as good an opportunity as the next person. However I do understand the argument that he has reached his potential and there might be younger prospects we want to try to develop.

What Manning rumors other than fans and mediots? He's not coming here.

Yea..except that he will be.

No he won't. Dez, Miles, Robinson, Holmes, Harris, and Radway will all be ahead of Holley. He's done here.

No guarantee Harris or Holmes are and there is no guarantee that Radway will be the same after the injury he sustained, physically or mentally.

Holmes is definitely a guarantee, just look at the quotes from the coaching staff and from Jerry. Holmes is a lock. Both Harris and Radway are much younger and much more skilled than Holley. Cowboys will most likely only keep 5 WR's, which will make Holley and another guy the odd men out.

I never understood the obsession with Radway. I didn't think he was going to make the team before he got injured. Then he got injured and became some great project.

Jerry Jones flat out said that Radway was going to make the 53 man roster before he got injured, so obviously the Cowboys organization disagrees with you.

But he got injured. How will respond this training camp? I think the odds are going to be tough to overcome for Holley but I do think he will go to camp with the Cowboys. How he does in special teams and in the chances he is given at WR will likely determine is fate.

I have never understood this hate around here for Holley. Sure he got on to the team in a weird way, but he has done nothing but produce in whatever situations he has been asked to. I was wondering all last season why we didn't put him in on kickoff returns instead of that cluster **** of a situation we had.

I agree. I do think this will be a tough uphill climb for Holley and chances are he will always be a guy fighting for a position. All he can do is go out and give it everything he has both in special teams and when he is called on at WR. Thus far he has done just that. As for special teams he is more of a coverage guy than a return man. Sam Hurd lasted in Dallas doing the same thing

I don't hate Holley, I just believe we have better prospects on the roster. I truly believe that when the Cowboys cut O-tree and Holley, they will not be picked up by any other team.

At first i just made the statement of "Yes, he'll be here", to show how how simplistic and stupid it was to make a statement of certainty as fact when its obviously still something even the Cowboys organization doesn't know, like he was doing regarding Holley's future with the team. Now, since he apparently didn't get the hint, im just seeing how long he'll continue with the retarded back and forth of "yea he will"/ "no he won't".. as if either of these statments meant anything at all.

We both had a 50/50 chance of being right. That doesn't mean that before the decision was made either of us had any knowledge of it in order to come on this board and act like something was factual.

Thank you, sir.

Yea, i do as well. He's young, energetic, a special teams ace, and came through in the few oppertunities we gave him at his position. Doesn't drop the ball and gives 110 percent every time he steps on the field and is very positive on the sidelines and in the locker room. Can't imagine teams not wanting a guy like this around their football team. I think everybody and their mom knows he isn't a guy that makes the team because he's a Pro Bowl WR. He makes it because he is given a role to perform and goes out and does it well every game. Every winning team needs players like that.

Holley wasn't a great special teams player either. It's not like he was a Danny McCray type of special teamer. He was average at best, and besides he was the oldest WR on the team with no upside. Harris, Radway, Holmes, and even Teddy Williams has much more potential than Holley.

Sorry Roy, Holley is not coming back. I know you don't want to take the Jesse Holley poster down in your room, but there are plenty of other players to choose from.
