Interest in #Jaguars free agent DE Jeremy Mincey is growing; cheaper alternative to Mario & Abraham. #Bears, #Browns, #Cowboys in-play.

This would be a very underrated and nice move if they were able to pull it off some how.

Very under the radar up and coming player. Really came into his own last season but had no supporting cast. These are the type of signing that pay big right away with little money up front.

Interesting. Another high-motor/high-effort guy. I'm surprised JAX didn't resign him. I wonder if he priced himself out of their market?

#Jaguars wont let free agent DE Jeremy Mincey go without a fight, despite growing market interest. He was the teams best pass rusher in '11.
so we'd put him at de or olb?

Was he another one they weren't able to negotiate with for whatever reason (don't recall what our issue was with re-signing Laurent Robinson)? It seems like teams should be able to re-sign these journeymen who take root and finally start to deliver for them before the free market gets to them if they really wanted to.

Can rush the passer and create fumbles.
Could this be our 3rd pass rusher while keeping Spencer?
Or a possible replacement?
I think this would be our 3rd pass rusher who would get a lot of snaps.
This is a good "value" player that can make an impact, to bring in.

A little light for a 3-4 DE.

This seems like more evidence for the 4-3 switch...
He's a 4-3 DE. Hmmmm... And, add Dan Connor as insurance at LB in a 4-3

RR runs so many schemes during a game anyway. I'm sure he'd the right one to play Mincey or another DE on passing downs, etc.

Gives the team someone to put at DE on nickel defense who can provide some semblance of a pass rush.

I hope the Cowboys don't add too many guys in FA. They will be better off focusing on the draft and doing a better job there. If they sign CB and backup QB in the next few weeks that is enough from FA.

1) too many holes to plug without extensive FA work- 6 or so
2) like our drafts are likely to plug more then 3 holes per draft if that?
3) Time is short- we do not have several years to fix things- Romo and Ware have expire dates coming up.
4) Pass Rush prospects are very weak in this draft

Don't see this happening after re-signing Spencer. I would rather have Matt Roth. Cheaper and would be a decent rotation piece.

He's around the same size as Spencer: 6-3 270 pounds.
He ran 4.68 at his Pro Day - basically idential to Spencer.
SS was better than Spencer at 4.25
3-cone drill was better than Spencer at 7.01.
Mincer's vertical was 33.5 inches versus Spencer's 32.5.
Mincer's broad jump was 10-1 versus Spencer's 9-4.
Spencer did beat him on the bench, 30 reps to 27.
Spencer is youner though by all of 40 days.
I'd assume he is being brought in as a pass rushing DE or to play 3-4 OLB. If Greg Ellis could make the switch when he was even older, there is no reason to think Mincey can't do it. There is no way I can see him lining up at 3-4 DE on a consistent basis.
I really wouldn't mind it if all if we signed him and lifted the franchise tag off of Spencer. He just isn't worth that kind of salary. We really can't afford the luxury of bringing Spencer back in case we can't find a better replacement in FA or the draft with that $10M salary cap ding.

Some of the young guys already on the roster need to step up. If we have that many holes and plan to fill via FA then we are screwed this year. The only lasting foundation is built through the draft.
I hope that 2 holes filled in FA (CB and QB) and the remaining needs addressed through draft. OL in first and third. DE/ILB in second.

I would say this move definitely looks more like a Spencer replacement than trying to get a 3-4 end. I could see Mario Williams being considered to play some end in the 3-4, but there's no evidence Mincey would be able to make that transition.
