Hall to compete at starting right end

http://sportsmed.starwave.com/i/teamlogos/nfl/sml/trans/kan.gif Kansas City Chiefs (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=kan): Restricted free-agent defensive end Carlos Hall (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=6099) was acquired from the Tennessee Titans (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=ten) for a fifth-round pick in the 2005 draft, ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports.

After Hall signs a one-year qualifying offer for a restricted free agent, worth $656,000, the parties will work on a long-term contract, Pasquarelli has learned.

Hall, 26, started 31 of 45 games in three seasons with the Titans. Last season, he recorded 41 tackles, 2½ sacks and one fumble recovery.

In Kansas City, he likely will compete with Jared Allen (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=6885) for the starting right end spot.

A seventh-round pick out of Arkansas in 2002, Hall has 120 tackles, 13 sacks and seven pass deflections.

I'd have given a 5th for Hall in a blink of an eye.

Better than giving Dat/2nd rounder for Howard

I would have liked him for a 5th too. Get him for a 5th, draft a DE let them battle it out to start.

Sucks to be Tennessee right about now. You get a solid player with a 7th round pick, and just when he should be hitting his prime, you have to trade him for a 5th round pick.

Hall is by no means a pro bowl caliber player, but I'll bet his production has been far superior than the average 5th rounder.

The Titans didn't HAVE to trade Hall. The Titans were 2.5 mill under the cap and already had tendered Hall so he was counting against the cap.

Carlos Hall had 3 sacks in his first ever game. In the 3 years since then he has a grand total of 10.5 sacks over the next 47 games.

Like I posted when the Hall thread started a while back, Laboy and Schobel were the new starters and Hall was going to have to fight to stay on the roster.

Had the Titans kept Hall he would have been a back-up who probably posted another 2 sacks or so like last year then would have left next year for nothing.

Getting a 5th rounder for Hall is like stealing as far as I'm concerned.

Hall wasn't even as good as Wiley for the Cowboys. Would the Cowboys ve taken a 5th for Wiley?

I totally agree. Apparently these people have not watched Hall very much. He is horrible and I can't figure out why they gave Tennessee a 5th rounder. I just don't understand why some people here wanted him so bad? I would rather have Wiley, and that is saying something because Wiley sucks.

KC had 3 5th's so its nothing to them either way

They are still trying to figure out how to get Surtain but from what NFL Network reported the other night the phins want a 3rd and the only 3rd KC has is a comp and it can't be traded.

Yes.

It would have been better than the compensation they did get.

yes if he was also cheap.
a 5th round DE who gives you depth is a good thing.

Hall for 2 mil a year and a 5th aint bad at all. You'll find that out if either of the titans supposed starters who couldn't supplant hall last year stink or get hurt. For someone who watched Dallas totally screw up after caphell you should recognize the sign and sign one is losing mediocre players.

Tennessee wasnt going to sign all their draft picks with 2.5 mil.

Hall is addition without subtraction. 5th round picks are crap shoots.
Why take 2 steps forward to only take 3 back.
Howard would cost a very good young and cheap potential player in round 2. A veteran who is as proven as Howard and much healthier in Dat and a mega contract. Uh no thanks.

If you could go out and draft a backup DE who could play both the 3-4 and 4-3 DE/ROLB spot any team in the league would do it but Dallas would squeal in delight doing it. They have said they aren't giving up picks which apparently they mean.

Hall aint getting no 2 mill a year. Thats a laugher. If he was going to get anything close to that the Chiefs could have signed him to an offer sheet and only given up a 7th rounder. KC probably isn't going to pay much more than the minimum and thats why they gave up a 5th instead of a 7th.

How about a few guesses as to why Shcobel or Laboy couldn't beat Hall out last year? I wonder if the fact Schobel broke his foot in mini-camp and missed almost the entire season or the fact Laboy got injured and missed the first half the season and lost 25lbs had anything to do with it?

Hall played in 14 games and had 2.5 sacks. In 8 games Laboy had 4 sacks. Laboy outperformed Hall easily when he took over the RDE spot.

Yes they were. They didn't have trade hall for cap space. After June Schulters will either take a pay cut or get released and the Titans will have around 5 mill in cap space and it will cost about 2.5 mill to sign their draft picks.

Carlos Hall got 3 sacks in his first ever game.

In the next 46 games he got 10.5 sacks. Do the math
