Davis was a fifth-round pick of the Bears in the 2008 NFL Draft.
(Editor's Note: With the NFL
(Editor's Note: With the NFL free agency period underway, the Cowboys have some work to do. In this series, DallasCowboys.com takes a look at a number of the veterans who could wind up in Dallas. Today's featured player is Chicago tight end Kellen Davis.)
Name: Kellen Davis
Position: Tight end
College: Michigan State
Height/Weight: 6-7 / 267
Age: 26 (born Oct. 11, 1985)
NFL Experience: 4 seasons
Availability: Apparently the first choice as a replacement for Martellus Bennett, Davis is scheduled to visit the Cowboys on Wednesday, and the team could push hard to sign him. National reports have Davis slated to visit the Steelers and Bengals as well, however, so he and his representatives may want to take their time. He would be considered a No. 2 tight end in both those destinations as well.
What He Brings: Davis is a solid and experienced blocker on the line of scrimmage, also offering plenty of athleticism for the passing game. While his opportunities as a receiver have come sparingly, he's shown a knack for making plays in the red zone, evidenced by his five touchdowns in 2011. He had 18 total catches for 206 yards on the year, starting 15 games alongside Greg Olsen.
