This is basically a stopgap for the Giants. I think they like Ballard and Beckum, but both are lost for 2012 to ACL's.

It's a good chance for Bennett, though. If he can get it turned around, he's still young enough to sign a better long-term deal than he would have been offered based on past performance.

Plus, Eli throws a great jump ball. lol

I, unfortunately think he will pretty good for the Giants. He has talent, no one can deny that. He's built for this NFL, and just hasn't put it all together. In fairness he wasn't given a legit shot. Sure he'd get plays here and there, and he didn't capitalize when really called upon. And in the NFL if you don't answer when you're called upon you'll be looking for work.

But he's had a year under the more strict head coach in Jason Garrett, he's now going to an even more strict head coach who will keep him in check. He will most likely be the #1 TE, and probably be the #3 or #4 passing option on each play, as opposed to #4 or #5. He can block, and Eli Manning made Kevin Boss look really good, and Jake Ballard as well. Eli relies on his TE's, so I think this is a recipe for Bennett to succeed. I can see Bennett parlaying this one year stint into a multi year deal. I can see him catching 40-50 passes with 6-7 TD's for the Giants while also proving to be a pretty goon run blocker.

He will be booed loudly when he returns.

He can run but hes a plodder. Him failing to catch the ball when extending his hands away from his body is not bad luck. Hes got poor body control and hand eye coordination. He can want to be a deep threat but when the ball is not perfect and hes flailing at it, it'll still be a problem.

I cannot blame him too much. His rookie season was when PacMan, Tank and Hard Knocks was running around. Jerry Jones as PT Barnum was at its worst.

How can you expect young guys to learn professionalism when they work at the carnival?

Taking less money to go to the Giants means that its personal for him. Strange.

Why would anyone who wanted to make an impact want to play behind Witten?

I get that but he would have been the best TE on the market. He could have gotten an opportunity to start in other places I am sure and gotten more money guaranteed. He basically went straight to NY and took whatever they offered him.

Hes played a 2nd round contract which is maybe a million dollars and minimum contracts. He now is basically taking double the minimum when he could be trying to go for getting an $8m check within the next week and nice salaries to look forward to.

Maybe he thinks he will start by default but the Giants guaranteed him nothing as evidenced by the contract. This is very personal.

Doofus. I read where he got up in front of the NY media, talking about how the 1-year deal is perfect for him ... a chance to prove what he's all about, or some such.

Yeah, Marty ... perfect until you get injured and cut with no safety net. You're free to fly now and show the world how great you can be when let loose to shine, lol. Hope we build a Defense that rocks your new Vagiants world this coming season.

Lost most all respect for ya leaving for a puny 1-year, couple-and-a-half measly mil deal to sign-on with the enemy, just to get out from under Witten who taught you how to be a pro and who outplayed you every single day of your NFL life. Shoulda hung in there, homey.

I cling to some morsel of respect for the 'high-road' comments you made about your time w/ the Cowboys.

That's pretty much how I see it. I'm interested to see how he'll do.

Eli makes Kevin Boss look legit. Martellus picked a good team to go to. The starting spot is wide open and Eli looks to use his tight ends. Good job for Marty.

It's a smart move by Bennett to get out from under Witten's shadow. Now it'll be up to him to prove he has what it takes. I don't hate him like a lot of the posters because he was just young and foolish when he arrived. A lot of guys are that way but he settled down pretty quickly and worked hard at the job he was asked to do, becoming a better than average blocker.

But Bennett wants to be Jermichael Finley or Vernon Davis but couldn't ever hold on to the football. He had his chances in Dallas though, and he almost always messed it up. He'll get a legitimate shot in NY though were one dropped ball won't mean no more chances for 2 to 3 weeks. If he can build up his confidence he could end up being a good "catch" for the Gints. Hope not for our sakes.

But he was a good player over all and doesn't deserve all the venom here.

Sam I Am

Just read 1yr $2.5M.

That's a lot for a blocking TE. :laugh2:

They signed Brandon Jacobs to an oversized contract too and had to cut him.

Well, Bennett isn't completely stupid. Nobody was going to offer him anywhere near that much. He did the right thing jumping on that right away. I would be surprised if anyone offered him $2.5M for two years.
