Witten 1.0 (http://66.225.255.101/%7Esmithj/Witten.zip) - I threw something together this morning from some of the clips I have. I still need to find a good song, and this song isn't long enough to accomodate all the clips I have. I still have another 5 or 6 blocking clips and another 10 - 15 catches (maybe more). But I just felt like getting something out there. So this is version 1.0, there will most likely be new and improved versions periodically in the offseason. It's a zipped divx yada yada yada...

Great clip. Watching Witten is just amazing. He runs beautiful routes and he has soft hands, yet he muscles his way through defenders, blocks great, and is strong on his routes.
JD, what editing software do you use? I was just curious since I am going to start cleaning my video up more with options and Adobe Premiere does not handle that as well as other programs.

Everything is done to the clips using two free programs, virtualdub which is an editor, and ffdshow which is a codec replacement and filter plugin for virtualdub. I only use premiere for actually ordering the clips once I have them all tweaked. I use virtualdub/ffdshow to resize, adjust the levels, remove pixellation (if it's really bad), crop and save as picvideo avi clips. Once I have a ton of clips I just use premiere to put them on the timeline with some music.

AWESOME video! I had no idea Witten was such a great blocker. That play against #57 on the Ravens was absolutely crazy! Witten is a top 3 TE in the NFL no doubt about it. Best route-running TE in the game.

One thing that I have to say really annoys me, is the amount of pixellation on the NFL Sunday Ticket broadcast. They need more bandwidth, because they are overcompressing the games and it leads to lousy looking clips. Especially when I blow things up on the bigscreen. You can see pixellation around every player just from the directv broadcast.

He's an up and down blocker at the moment. Sometimes he blocks really well, sometimes just so so. But this year he was called upon to block more once Campbell went down, and I think he improved throughout the year. I have around 5 clips of him blocking from the last Giants game, and he was solo on the DE a lot of the night. On one play Witten nearly misses the guy, but his tenacity combined with Julius' amazing running ability turns the play positive. It's the play where Julius is in the backfield and there are 3 or 4 Giants players near him and he eventually skirts around and dances down the sidelines for a 9 yard gain. Go back and watch how Witten stays with his block and drives the DE past Julius to allow JJ to escape.

You're right, I never noticed that Witten messed up on that play. But the fact that he stayed with his block even though he initially screwed up allowed JJ to make that sweet run, and I think it shows that he has a great mentality for the game. He's a true football player, I guess. Thrilled that he's a Cowboy.

That play is a tough assignment for a TE. Both the RG and RT pull to the right without even chipping the DE (not sure, but Gurode might be responsible for at least slowing the guy) and Witten has to take him from outside and drive him in. If the DE is lined up closer to the guard/tackle gap and making an inside move it's really hard for the TE to get over and engage him. Witten barely got to him and was in bad position from the start. I believe Barnes comes up and blocks someone else. So Witten had the DE solo the entire time. Sticking with that block is the only thing that allowed Julius to get wide and show his gifts. If Witten had given up at all that would have been a 4 yard loss.

Thanks JD, I was actually on DVDRhelp.com and downloading the VirtualDub software. I was on the right track. All my Divx problems seem to be fixed after I installed the new codec.

That's a great analysis JD. And Witten's blocking should be significantly better and more consistent in the future because A) he's so new to the position of Tight End and B) because he's so young and has Parcells to learn from.
Ben Coates did a little training with him last Summer too.

So apparently i cant just leave a quote. So ill put ditto.
EDIT: Oh and I'm also hoping that we may see a compilation of some of the catches from last year as well. There were some good ones, notably the the flea flicker in the browns game, and the deep ball in the second redskins game that i believe it was terrence copper? I could be wrong :skins:

Absolutely excellent work as always, JD.
Very nicely done.
I've got my Witten...

Now what are my chances of getting my Keyshawn?
(please)
Once again, well done.

Actually I'd love to do one of both Key and Glenn - because when both were playing they made a great combination. Unfortunately I don't keep games, I only make clips and then delete the games from my tivo. So I only have clips of Witten and Julius.
Nice job JD, can't wait to see the finished product!!!

thanks anyway.
I guess it's better to wait and make a clip of Key and Glenn with Mike Williams this year anyway... (he he he)

You have digital cable or a satelite? I have "digital" cable but the only TRUE digital channels come after 100. So my fox etc are analog to digital and crap quality. When I record those channels I get all sorts of crap.

directv, the nfl sunday ticket. I think the problem is that they are just broadcasting too many games for the bandwidth they have allocated.

Maybe Parcells will finally convince Bavaro to help out. I know that in one interview MB said Bill had asked him to talk to the guys after he took the job and initially Bavaro said yes and then got to thinking about it and called Bill back and said he couldn't help the hated Cowboys. ;) Maybe he'll change his mind again and work with Witten.

I say sort of just because I have more footage to incorporate. I didn't get to show as many of his blocks as I wanted and couldn't figure out how to fit them in without taking away catches. I may just loop some point in the song to give it enough length and then get the extra footage in that way. The song is basically one big loop anyway.
And yeah, Witten is the real deal. He simply does it all.

Thanks JD...you're the man.
We're very lucky to have Jason. Class act, awesome player.
That video also showed that Ol' Vinny did have some touch here and there.

Vinny still has a great arm. In his day it was easily among the top 2 or 3 in the league. Vinny is just a dope and makes some really dumb mistakes. Some of those passes to Witten are literally dropped into his arms between defenders. Parcells was right when he said Vinny will still be able to throw the ball until the day he dies, the guy just has great natural ability to throw.

Witten highlights, tweaked (66.225.255.101/~smithj/Witten1_1.zip) - no huge difference, just cleaned up a bit and with a few extra blocking plays added in. This one is divx, but I'll be posting the wmv version a little later.
