View Full Version : How Has Free Agency Changed My Thoughts On Mocks?

Well, prior to FA I never put anyone at #14 except DeCastro. If he's not there I will want to trade down, but I don't like mocks that go trade crazy.
#14. Michael Brockers, NT, LSU, 6'6", 320. It isn't what I want, but I can live with it. Ratliff moves to RDE and Lissemore to LDE for the starting DL.
#45. Peter Konz, C, Wisconsin, 6'5", 315. Yes burm, I know he could die. I also know he is one hell of a football player and fills the biggest remaining need on this team. No, I don't believe he is going to die. Instant starter.
#82. Chase Minnifield, CB, Virginia, 5'10", 185. We need CB depth in a pass happy league.
#113. Juron Criner, WR, Arizona, 6'3", 225. We won't even miss Laurent Robinson. I am that convinced Criner has NFL potential. He is big, he is fast, he has great hands, and above all he gets open.
#144. Brian Linthicum, TE, Michigan State, 6'4", 250. Kid is seriously smart. Has very under rated hands and gets to the 2nd level as a blocker. Fits Jason Garrett's system like a glove.
#175. Bryan Anger, P, California, 6'3", 205. McBriar is gone and Chris Jones is still here, but this kid is in McBriar's league as a weapon for pinning teams deep. It doesn't matter how far back he is pinned, Anger regularly pins the other team back. Can Kick off too if the NFL moves it back to the 30 like they should. Huge leg. Excuse me while I got throw up.
6th Round Supp Pick. Nick Foles, QB, Arizona, 6'4", 245. Goodbye Stephen McGee. Foles is accurate and is a natural leader with a big arm. No, he isn't mobile. His quick release will offset that. I love him, so he's back in my Mock.
#206. Donte Paige-Moss, OLB, North Carolina, 6'3", 265. My pet cat. The guy I think we need to steal. Let him take 2012 off if need be to recover. In 2013 if he had stayed in school this kid is a 1st or 2nd round talent.
Chew it up and spit it out. Criticism always welcomed.

I really like #2,3,and 4. I think someone will take Criner in the first 100 picks...big, productive WR. Also, are u saying that Hatcher becomes a backup DE or that we go to a mostly 4-3 front with Brockers and Hatcher in the middle?

Cox seems to rising fast. He could be an option as well. Im leaning to a trade down at this point.

I love the mock, though I`m not completely sold on Brockers. If we`re thinking DT in the first, it might be good value to move down 10 picks and take a Still, Cox or Reyes, adding a mid-round 2nd pick.
I keep wondering if JJ might look at Michael Floyd at WR. That`s were we seem thin. If all are healthy, Austin could play the slot, but frankly, Bryant and Austin never seem healthy.

People don't want to hear Brockers but I think this is becoming an increasingly likely scenario given what's transpired in FA and various statements about the need to infuse the D with talent.
No Curry this time around?
Also, any thoughts/whispers to report on the QB from Mich State?

I'd like Brockers. I think he'll be a big upgrade on the DLine. Tons of potential.
Hos, you think Foles really falls that far? I know he's been passed by some of the other QB prospects, like Cousins, Weeden, and Osweiler, but some team has to want him before the 6th. He's going to need a good oline in front of him, but he seems like a guy that can play at the next level if you keep him upright.

I like your post FA draft better than I did your pre-FA one.
I don't know if we get better players in this one or if it is just more about I expect Dallas to fall a lot closer to this one come draft day.

#1 David DeCastro, G, Stanford
#2 Mark Barron, SS, Alabama
#3 Jeff Fuller, WR, Texas A&M
#4 Cliff Harris, CB, Oregon
#5 Kevin Zeitler, G, Wisconsin
#6 Jeff Allen, T, Illinois
#7 Ronald Leary, G, Memphis
My predictions are based on a tool I've written that is tracking all the prospects especially with relation to teams and present it in a friendly way.
I might work on the mock generator because there is no way in hell anyone would draft 3 Guards especially not in the first round. That said this is a reflection on the chat...

Sloppy, lazy thinking.
You wouldn't make that comparison if he went to another schools because they are nothing alike.
Literally, the entirety of your mental process must be "Durrr, big interior LSU lineman... must be Spears. *drool* *drool*"

In my mind if DeCastro gone trade back and grab Cox, Brockers, Poe, or Glenn.
This is where I am. And probably in that order too.
Eventually in the next couple of weeks I will post my first ever mock. I just find them too multi-faceted and difficult to put together. I can't just say this guy in the first and this guy in the second. I have to come up with a mini-pref board based on who is likely to be there. So like 4-5 options for each round wherein I like whoever is the highest rated on that mini-board.
My first round is looking like that, though. 1. DeCastro 2. Cox. 3. Brockers. 4. Poe. 5. Glenn. Kuechly would have probably been 3, but with the pickup of Connor, I have to bounce him. We need a starter here.

He's always around the ball, too.
You really shouldn't get hung up on stuff like that, though. Someone's going to draft him to plug a hole on their team. Tough to predict who, though. If it's us, I just hope he stays in awhile as a starter and isn't constantly in and out of the lineup due to stamina issues or something. that would suck.

Konz wont be there. Ravens and Packers love him.
Baltimore yes, GB not as much. Baltimore needs interior line help all the way around though and it sounds like they would be more inclined to go OT or OG.
IMO Packers would be an ideal fit but they seem to be real high on Genesis Sampson who was a UDFA for them last year.
This is where I am. And probably in that order too.

I hope the Cowboys are not thinking the same way. Kuechly is head and shoulders better than Connor. Kuechly is not only a better athlete, but he is simply a better football player. Connor is an average player, Kuechly can be special.

I don't think any team can go into a draft with one player on their mind, cause you never know what will happen, who will fall, run at a position, etc.. Rather than one guy, you got to have that list of guys and go from there depending on who is available, team needs, grade, etc..
The process is so fluid that you just better be ready for anything that day, and at #14 while we do have some control, we have no clue who will be there at this point.

Why not? When was the last DL from LSU that really lit it up in the NFL?
At least Spears had production in college.
Only a fool uses a first on potential alone

I am not saying Brockers will be a great player, but he was the best DL on LSU last year and the player that opposing teams geared up for. Also - LSU runs a completely different scheme now with Chavis so it is hard to compare Brockers to Dorsey, Jackson and Spears. But if you want to make that argument then don't forget about Kyle Williams...he is pretty darn good. And finally - John Chavis coached John Henderson as well as Haynesworth at Tenn. and has said multiple times that he would take Brockers over them. Great character kid with terrific work ethic as well.

Well then you must hate our offseason then. Two mediocre Gs signed which leads to not taking your prime G prospect in the draft. Not exactly a great way to address what you called our most pressing issue on the team.
