The New England Patriots have reached an agreement with free agent wide receiver Brandon Lloyd, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Brandon Lloyd will provide Tom Brady and the Patriots' offense with a much-needed vertical element, writes Mike Reiss. Blog

Lloyd was traded by Denver to St. Louis last season after the Broncos made the switch to Tim Tebow at quarterback. In 11 games with the Rams after the trade, Lloyd caught 51 passes for 683 yards and five touchdowns.

In 2010, Lloyd led the league with 1,448 yards receiving, when he caught 77 passes, 11 of them for touchdowns.

Josh McDaniels, the Patriots' offensive coordinator, was Lloyd's head coach in Denver.

The 30-year-old receiver has played for five teams in his nine-season career. The 49ers originally selected him in the fourth round of the 2003 draft.

Lloyd is the second receiver signed by New England on Saturday, after former Colts wideout Anthony Gonzalez. The Patriots also agreed to a deal with former Raiders defensive end Trevor Scott, a league source told Schefter.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

Seems to be cheap considering what Robinson got paid. But if you watch this interview it explains a lot.

Wow.

Surprisingly well spoken.

I always thought he was a guy who was a head case and didn't put the mental aspect into the game to be a true performer.

Yeah, he's a guy I've never actually seen interviewed. He was very comfortable on camera. He seems like a guy that could be a great on air personality when his playing days are over. So many of the ex-players are just awful on TV.

He's a complete enigma to me. He's bounced around so much and his production levels haven't been very consistent (or good) until the past 2 seasons. I'm sure he'll put up huge numbers for the Pats though.

T.O is articulte too when he's not playing up his ego to the persona ( a sign he's actually an insecure person).

Brandon Llyod and TO are foolish people, not stupid ones, their intellectual capacity is fine, their wisdom is lacking.

I'm not so sure Brandon Lloyd is like TO though...

Why do we never hear white players described as articulate?

One of the better spoken WRs. Very impressed. At that contract I wish we signed him.

I've heard players described as 'articulate.' Not sure what race they were, because I don't see color or gender, Mr Chan.
