I honestly do not know what you intend by "taking away all bias against the players." With that said,

1. Joey Galloway via trade (one could argue he counts twice)
2. Shante Carver
3. Ryan Leaf

It amazes me that Quincy Carter would make any list here......He had a winning record with the cowboys as a starter on some pretty pathetic teams.

Where is the love?

We had so many busts worse then Carter......some didn't even see the playing field. Carter outplayed....outperformed.....and was worth the money he was being paid compared to the likes of the other second round pick that year.....Tony Dixon....as a example.....but I guess he gets a free ride because he wasn't a QB.

It wasn't Carters fault that he was thrusted in the lineup.....hindered the developement of maybe another franchise QB.....thats the mangements fault.

I'm only going to comment on the last question...

I don't see the worst pick as being Ryan Leaf. My reasoning is that everyone here who says he was the worst pick, would have picked him...as would every other team.

To my way of thinking, the worst pick has to be a guy who was drafted way ahead of where he should have been and THEN turned out to be a bust.

For instance, Blair Thomas was a awful pick...BUT...everyone would have picked him.

Guys like Dixon and QC are more in line with what I am thinking of as the "worst" picks...

I rank Tony Dixon as our worst pick of the last 10 years mostly because of who we SHOULD have drafted instead, Shaun Rogers.

Rogers has been one of the best DTs in the league since he was selected while Dixon couldn't beat out Lynn Scott.

1)who has been the worst draft pick in the last 10 years for the cowboys?
Quincy Carter.

Not because of his performance. Jerry was too quick on the trigger to take a mobile QB when in fact we just needed a good QB. Making a reach is always the wrong move. Then they compounded it by throwing him to the wolves with no other options at QB in case he failed. We had 3 years (maybe some of it still lingers) of hatred and distrust among fellow Cowboys fans about their intentions and opinions about him. I feel like it tore the fan base apart to some extent.

We can have differing opinions on all players, but on him it seemed to feel personal.

Once he struggled it just amplified the mistake. The reach became more egregious and the distrust between fellow fans got worse.

It was a period of time that truly divided us as fans and I wish it had never happened. He wasn't near as bad as some people thought, nor near as good as other people thought. I can't wait until the lingering bad feelings are gone, but I am honest, I don't think that will be any time soon. Too many people cannot or will not forgive and move on.

2)who has been the worst 1st day draft pick in the last ten years for the cowboys?
I'm not sure what the difference is supposed to be between this question and #1. Too similar.

3 who has been the worst 1st round draft choice in the last ten years(including all NFL teams, not just the cowboys)? There have been a lot of bad ones. I am going to go with Lawrence Phillips.

No denying his talent or potential but the guy was simply a ticking time bomb. In my mind nothing is worse than unrealized potential. This guy effectively ended Steve Young's career as he watched a tackler run right past him and decapitate Young. When you talk about a cancer on a team, this kid was it.

Awww, you beat me to it Juke.

A bad pick is someone you reach for horribly and turns out awful. At the time, 30 other GMs would have given their left nut for Ryan Leaf (and boy, would they have been sorry - trading a good nut for a bad nut.....)

Dixon qualifies on so many levels. Even Dixon and his agent were sure he was a 2nd day pick at best - Tony is quoted as saying he wasn't even watching the draft he was so sure he was going on Sunday. Just a terrible reach for no good reason at all.

Guys like Goodrich, Larrimore, even Ekuban were pretty much picked where they were slated to go. We were just the dummies who pulled the trigger. But that's still not as bad as pulling a player out of the blue.

I think Carter was our worst pick in the last 10 years. Certainly Carver is right up there, along with Goodrich but for many of the reasons outlined, namily, where he should have been taken as opposed to where we took him but more then that.

Hos makes good points but strickly from a franchise point of view, the Carter pick was devistating because of the time and resources devoted to developing him. All for not and we didn't even get decent value on a trade. Carter was never going to be a franchise QB but still, he was good enough to contribute, had he only been willing to do so. Instead, we got nothing at all for our investment.

As far as NFL wide, I think it's easy to say Leaf and perhaps that's true but I think you gotta consider Ki-Jana Carter, Tim Couch and Courtny Brown as major considerations. All were the 1st players taken in there respective drafts and all have pretty much been busts IMO. Leaf, along with Carter, were also busts, but both were injured and IMO, the injuries played significant roles in why they were busts. Couch and Brown, on the other hand, simply have never played well. I think Brown still has a chance but he will likely never be more then just a marginal player. Couch I would have to say is the biggest bust. Much like QC, he represents huge monitary invest but more importantly, resources. The Browns waisted years on him, waiting for his development. As a result, the organization is in a shambles. That, IMO, was the most costly error in the last 10 years.

Going against the grain here......Mike Ditka's Wife. He gave up the whole draft for him. And at the time I thought it was a cigar Ditka lit after he drafted him. Only now we know what was really wrapped into those old tobacco leaves.

The problem wasn't where he was drafted. The problem is who he was drafted by. He went to the NFL hell hole called Cincinnati. He got extremely poor coaching and they never made an attempt to develope him or work with him. In addition, he had really bad teammates and coaches. I mean football players that weren't very good and coaches that couldn't find jobs anywhere else. The management wasn't any better as they were considered among the worst in the league. As a result his skills started to slide and then his confidence was shot. The rest, as they say, is history.

Coming out of college he was rated as the top overall pick by some teams. He was definately a top 5 pick and many viewed him as a future pro bowler. Believe it or not he was actually very good in college. I know I know, you can't believe he was drafted that high. It wasn't a shock at the time.
