Name: Bill Nagy
Position: Guard
Height/Weight: 6-3/303
Experience: 1 season
College: Wisconsin

2011 Impact: The Cowboys felt like they got seventh-round steal in Nagy, a former starter at Wisconsin who became a backup as a senior upon his return from an automobile accident.

Writers' Analysis:
Rob Phillips: Nagy has some physical limitations at this level; he's undersized and doesn't have the desired arm length to ward off rushers. But the Cowboys like him because he's smart and tough and he plays with good leverage. I think center might actually present a better opportunity for him now that Livings and Bernadeau are here. Look for him to possibly be in the mix there, too.

Josh Ellis: Adding Bernadeau and Livings would seem to just about eliminate any chance Nagy had to start at guard this year. Could he compete for a first-team job at center? Compete is probably the right word. On game days he might very well be your swing guy, the backup at both guard spots and center. He's definitely ahead of David Arkin, their fourth-round pick last year.

Contract Status: Signed through 2014.

2011 Impact: The Cowboys felt like they got seventh-round steal in Nagy, a former starter at Wisconsin who became a backup as a senior upon his return from an automobile accident. With projected starter Montrae Holland injured and the overall offensive line in transition, Nagy outperformed fellow draft pick David Arkin in training camp and opened the season at left guard. Newly-signed veteran Derrick Dockery replaced Nagy in Week 2 but got injured in-game, so Nagy took over for the next three games before injuring his ankle against the Patriots. Holland was subsequently re-signed to man left guard again. In Nagy's four starts, the Cowboys rushed 80 times for 274 yards (3.4 per carry) with five touchdowns. Running back DeMarco Murray's emergence and fullback Tony Fiammetta's return from injury helped the run game improve from mid-October on.

Where He Fits: By committing some $30 million to veterans Nate Livings and Mackenzy Bernadeau, the Cowboys appear to have two new starting guards for 2012. Nagy has spent the last several months rehabbing with the athletic training staff and should be in the mix for a roster spot again. He also took some center snaps last year, and that's the type of versatility the Cowboys seek.
