Consensus largely was Roy or Jammer in 2002.

Though many coveted Leftwich or Suggs in 2003 there was still plenty of love for Terrance Newman.

When the Boys passed on Jackson/KJ in 2004 the fallout was CONSIDERABLE though somewhat asuaged by reaping an extra 1st for this year.

What about this year? I don't recall recently such a variety of strong opinions on who will boom and who will bust.

Take Mike Williams, Merriman and James. Per the pundits, none would be reaches at #11. But on this board I have heard both lots of support and lots of cat calls on these three alone.

Yet this draft, and our slots, probably creates more variety in potential scenarios than recent years. The result? This board is guaranteed gonna be lit up on draft day - and red hot, no matter who we choose.

I think it's still too early. Give it another week and things should clear up.

You are correct about this board being lit up on draft day!

I think it's easier to get a consensus when you are in the top 8 spots of the draft. Although still a high selection, being at eleven and not knowing which direction Parcells is going on defense adds more variables to the equation.

Of the three players you mentioned, the one player that is getting knocked down some media draft boards is Erasmus James. I think Williams and Merriman are likely to be gone at #11, but James will probably still be there.

Personally I hope it is Merriman or James but willing to keep an open mind on other options

Most likely we'll back whoever we choose, its just the options at our disposal and a coach like parcells thats keeps us and the media guessing and its just fun to speculate and mock the others that were all for a guy and we didnt take him either. Its all good fun amongst friends with the common bond

This draft is more a matter of taste then most and the lower you draft the less chance fans get the pick correct.

I did prefer Leftwich or Suggs and Jammer or RW so I was right there with your initial stuff. I also was sick they traded down and didnt take SJ/KJ but I NEVER liked SJ/KJ as a top 10 pick as many did. Big Backs need big holes. RBs are taught to get smalll in the hole and big backs cant. SJ runs upright so wouldn't even if he was small. KJ is a speed back who ran all the stuff outside at VaTech and that concerned me. I did like Julius alot as a 2nd or 3rd rounder. I watched a lot of Notre Dame due to their NBC contract and he displayed as much pure RB skill as any back in the country. I actually loved the Cowboys draft last year when all was said and done. It hasn't lived up to my expectations yet but JJ showed he certainly can surpass them by far.

I'm in for a vote for Spears. I think he would be a solid pick!

Yeah, we'll back them, after they Jerry & Parcells are ripped to shreds for not picking MY guy and trading down an additional slot to pick up an additional 1st for next year. :D

It is a lot of fun though if kept in perspective. ;)

Forgot about the Spears crowd.

Plenty of backers and detractors on him too. :D

I don't think there's going to be a consensus, really... This draft is too muddy and our needs too many. And if we trade down, which is likely, there's no telling who will be around when we pick (wherever that turns out to be).

As always, I just hope that our picks turn out to be good players. :) I never really understood the whole idea of latching onto pre-draft favorites and then crying about passing on them for months or years later.

I think Merriman is the closest I have seen with regards to a consensus pick. That is, the likelihood that the Cowboys draft him.

My first choice would be Mike Williams. But I am certain he won't be there, so I peg that at about a 2% chance.

My second choice for #11 would be Merriman. I think it is more likely than not that he will be there. So that is pretty much who I think we take and would be happy with. I think you could reach a consensus both that it is a likely pick and a solid pick. I don't think you will see too many people upset with Merriman being selected.

My read is that if neither are there, we will trade. Picking Erasmus or Spears or Williamson would not be popular picks, in my estimation.

My draft board has been #11 Merriman, #20 Clayton, #42 Bullocks. I think each of those picks represent BPA and Need and are excellent value picks.

My (totally unrealistic) wish is for Mike Williams to be there at #11. If Williams drops and we dont take him or at least trade down, then this board will probably have a melt-down. Personally, I would feel a lot better about Spears or James... even DJ with #11 than Merriman. Merriman has tons of physical potential, but he "feels" like a reach to me at #11. I get the same gut-feeling about him that I got from Dwayne Robertson a few years ago.
